This is the model that I was interested in buying...

However, a couple of days ago, on the Sonystyle website, it was out-of stock..
exactly one day later, it is no longer listed on the website. It has been this way for 2+ days. Anyone know whats happening??

Someone suggested that their battery factory burned down somewhere...

So soon? Hmm, I don't know, but I don't think so. I mean why would they, no new processor, no new OS..? What are they planning up upgrad?e The HD;\?

If their battery factory or whatever burned out, it would affect more then just the SZ650. I'm thinking their really out of stock, and will be available in a few days. Have you tried calling Sony?

    haha... no, I haven't called..

The thing is, for one day they actually had "out of stock" next to the product. Don't you think they would have just kept it that way? Why remove it completely from the website?

Upgrades? We would all be astonished.. the new SZ6 came out end of August... hmm, who knows...

If a new one is coming out, that is going to drive me crazy. I have only had mine for a couple of months.

I just bought an SZ650 from a Sony Style store today (in store). I will just say that I paid well under the price it was advertised for on Sony Style's website, and I got the laptop with a mouse, neoprene case, and 4 year warranty as part of their bundle.

I've already created Recovery Disks and so far this notebook is amazing. None of the glitches others have complained about.

They have ALWAYS refreshed the SZ every 3 months or so. I have a SZ160 and it is about 18 months old.

Is there reason why you can't tell us how much you paid for it? No one's going to hound you.

On one hand I feel the same way since my 691 is only a month or so old. However, on the other hand, I've been on a holding pattern for almost a year before I finally pulled the trigger since every time I decided on a laptop there were always rumors, etc that something better (e.g. Santa Rosa) was forthcoming.

In any event, I have no regrets on my decision no matter what is coming out in the next three months.

No, it is the second fastest notebook processor on the market. The fastest is the X7800, which runs at 2.6Ghz. There are notebooks with desktop CPUs though, so those will be even faster.

There's no reason....the SZ650 was advertised at $1949 on Sony Style's website up until a few days ago, and thats how much it was in the store...but I paid just under $1900 for it, and I got the bundle which included a Neoprene Case, Laser Mouse, and 4-year warranty.

If there is one anywhere within driving distance from you, go to the store and check out the SZ for yourself and make the guy think you're really going to buy the laptop, but if it comes with a good bundle package. The guy who worked the deal for me said their "student bundle" was so successful that they decided to make it open for everyone. So you save a huge amount of money while also getting a basic yet stylish laser mouse, nice Neoprene case for laptop and adaptor/accessories, and a 4-year warranty. I came in on one day to see what kind of pricing would be there and the guy rang up $1900 something. Then he said if I came back the next day there would be a deal to mark down that price by $50-100. So I came back the next day and like he said, there was a $100 something price difference.

I'm pretty sure some laptops have the (x7900?) 2.80GHz out there right now.

Where do you live? There are quite a few places that sell the SZ650 much cheaper than Sony Style.

just curious as to what the sz650 adds to the vaio lineup, that can't be spec'd out in a sz680 for the same price?

I never understood why they offer some of these models in the first place.

There are a few reasons, I think. The non-configurable models are those which are held on display in-store in the Sony Style stores, for customers to look at, and also if you like the model you saw in the store, you can purchase it right there in the store instead of waiting for it to deliver by ordering it online. Personal preference.
