Anyone one know if I can install one of those turbo memory modules in a Sony SZ? I have an SZ680N if it's important.

    Thanks

Do you have a link detailing the memory specs? What's the latency?

Oh... for Vista only right? It doesn't look like it will fit in an ExpressCard 34 slot and according to one of the comments it only leaves you with 512MB after readyboost is enabled. That's not a lot of room.. :(

Would a faster, higher capacity USB thumb drive be better? Or maybe once prices drop a solid state disk? It *looks* like the hybrid drives were the preferred solution over Robson. If you have one of those already you might not benefit much?

Sony SZ does not have a Turbo Memory slot, so... you can't install one.

And Turbo Memory slot is not the same with ExpressCard 34 or 54 slot. It's different.

I brought that up because it's the only expansion bay on the SZ (card bus aside which isn't fast enough). It's possible to use a SSD in the ExpressCard 34 bay as a readyboost drive. A USB drive should still be the cheaper solution. The OP wasn't really clear in what he wanted the upgrade for. :(

    Speed, speed, and more speed!

I heard some people were adding these modules. Nobody seems to have conclusive proof whether they even do anything but for 30 bucks you can't really go wrong. Some guy was even loading a few apps on the space instead of using it for turbo memory. Too bad there's no slot.

I thought maybe there would have been a slot, because subsequent SZ laptops have WWAN on them, so that module had to be installed somewhere right?

I tried readyboost once, I hated it... er I didn't notice it but i had a fat usb key sticking out of my laptop. I have 3gb of ram so all accounts on the internet say i get no benefit with readyboost. Turbo memory is a faster interface so i thought i would feel something.

I guess I might wait for SSD to drop. they're just on the tip ready to drop now i think. I just need a 64 or 120 gb for a good price... say 300, 500 respectively and i'll bite.
