Hi guys, I've looked around for some solid information on RAM compatibility on the latest SZ series notebooks. (I searched the forums and found a lot of posts regarding the SZ and RAM but none of them relevant to my query. Many of the threads were for much older generations of the laptop.) I figured since the CPU's FSB is 800mhz the notebook should be compatible with 800mhz RAM, but I wanted some confirmation. I emailed the sales people at portable one with a number of questions including whether or not they thought 800mhz RAM would work and they said they thought it could.

Considering there is little to no difference in price between 667mhz and 800mhz RAM, I figure why not go with 800mhz RAM if it works. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried 800mhz RAM in their SZ 7 series?

I think it would function, but I remember hearing something about 800mhz RAM not being usable for some reason in the SZ / Santa Rosa (it would run the same as 667mhz RAM). I'm probably wrong though, so maybe someone who knows for sure can answer this question better.

It doesn't matter if the CPU supports a 800Mhz FSB. The GM965 Express chipset only supports DDR2 533 or DDR2 667 RAM. Look it up on their official site if you're still unconvinced.

Faster DDR2 memory is compatible with all lower DDR2 speeds; the 800Mhz RAM will only run at 667Mhz. If you want to increase performance spend your money instead on higher quality low latency memory. The stock memory that the SZ comes with is terrible.
