    Hello world!

I was upgrading my SZ7RMN. Changing fan, CPU, RAM and hard drive was smooth. But I meet a really strange problem with touchpad.
I bought a new touchpad on ebay, it was totally compactible. Installed it and now my SZ doesn't boot.
What is strange - it doesn't even power up! all indicatiors do not blink, nothing happens, with or without batt. I rechecked every connecton 3 times - nothing.
Changed back to old touchpad - it is booting, everything ok!

So, I played a bit with boards (there are 3 : basicly touchpad, button + fingerprint board and a card reader(connection goest throuhht it)). The piece which is making all stuff struggle - buttons board.

So, my question is - any suggestions, ideas ?
If the part is not compactible on BIOS level - it sould at least start and power up and then say ^sorry, no touchpad^ ? Am i right ?

    best regards

You would think it was compatible, but I have seen some weird things on Sony laptops over the years.

That little tiny board next to the cmos battery under the touchpad, you can boot without it. Cross the wires going to it though and you get nothing. Take out the bios battery out of most systems, they lose their date, Sony laptops, won't start. You just never know.

Can you swap your touchpad board and use the rest of the new parts?
Otherwise the new one is either fried, damaged or incompatible. I'm not sure how, but I would say damaged.

By the way, it will boot without one connected at all and shows no errors. Same with keyboard. I don't think Sony built in that error check because it's a laptop, they are always connected... Unless we disconnect them.

1st- Sony SZ series has 2 types of TP one is for vgn-SZ1,2,3,4,5 and second is fro VGN-SZ6,7 maybe you bought incorrect one.

2-nd- this small board is TPM module is for coding of HDD and laptop can boot without it.

    what error say?

    any screenshots?

    And works laptop yet?

    Yes, without TP laptop boots.
I don't have TPM module, i think i know where it should plug according to vgn-sz.pdf. it plugs directly to MB.

I found out that wiring between TP and cardreader module is different (+2 wires) in my native TP and new one.

So, I already got money back for new TP, will send it back. I bought a new one which is surely for SZ7.

My SZ7 ultimate upgrade plan is now half done. As I said I installed SSD, new T8300 CPU, 4GB ram. Easy.

To go: new touchpad with fingerprint, WWAN module (I didn't have this before) - will try to install, 802.11N wifi (waiting to arrive), new webcam (same RICOH but 1.3 MP, hope it has same wirings).

Was thinking about external graphic card, but this would work only with external monitor in my case...

Also I was theoritizing about changing the screen to higher resolution. But I couldn't find any of the same size. If you have ideas - tell me.

    Best regards
