Hi!
I've almoust done my SZ upgrade, it was my first laptop totally unscrewed and I am quite extatic about that.
So, I have SZ7RMN/B, it is more that 4-years old and the fan started to be really noisy. So it pushed me to chang it and when I discovered how many things have to be unscrewd to get to the fan...So:
- New CPU T9500. Easy.
- New fan. Ebay, had to be cutted a bit to fit in.
- New battery. Chineese one. Fixation was not really good, i opened it and modified the hook.
- Touchpad changed for new one with fingerprint scanner (previosly i didn't have it). Discovered that touchpads for SZ1-SZ5 and SZ6-SZ7 are non compactible with each other.
- RAM to 4gb. Easy.
- SSD instead HDD. (VT ACHI unlock in BIOS). Quite easy.
- new webcam (1.3 instead 0.3 - same RICOH chip, but from HP. The size was a bit bigger so i modified plastic stuff with a hot needle, 4-wires connection was found to the simple USB). Not so easy, I've ruined power board, had to buy new one. not so easy finally.
- WWAN module installed (i didn't have it in my model)
Yeah, sounds not really hard but I had to solve some problems.
At the moment everything runs like a charm, the only thing a cannot solve is a WWAN module power on.
I have Windows 7 x64, and running Smart Network under it is a problem as you know. I coudn't find the right order of installing Shared Libraries,etc...and their versions.
I've tried to power on the WWAN from Ubuntu, there is a module for that. But it seems it didn't work.
So, can you guys please tell me the way to poweron WWAN under windows 7 x64 ?
There is a probability that this would not work, cause my Power Board is not intendet to have WWAN and there is even no indicator LED for that. Maybe this is not possible without power board which supports WWAN...But I want to check it.
thanks

I would think you will need the board with the wwan power.
Also, the software needed depends on the wwan module you used, they aren't interchangeable. Worse, you have to find one that works in Win7 64bit, which is even more limiting. If you really want it working, go back to 32bit.
MY guide has a bit on it, step 19 documents it.
Also this post.
Don't get too excited.
My solution was a hodgepodge, the E.U. people had it easier because of how their cell industry operates over there. Even then, it still depends on the exact card you used. If you are completely determined, I would look for a card that came on a Win7 based laptop and switch to that.
I never went past what I wrote because I had no reason to keep messing with it. My cell phone has wifi tethering and gps so it was pointless to keep messing with. In the end, I removed the WWAN card to save battery.
Oh, interesting note... the power board covers, while they come in 5 and 6 led, and the lenses are positioned differently, the led's on the board are in the same spots. Inside the cover they re-routed the display locations is all. So you can take a WWAN power board cover and put a 5 lens cover and everything will still light up correctly, minus the wwan of course.
That being said, BEWARE!!!!
Ebay sellers will tell you anything to sell these and often use an incorrect image. I now have 3 covers that are not what I ordered because of unscrupulous sellers. Yes, I got my money back (minus shipping), but I actually asked 2 of them prior to purchase how many led's these had and both lied to me. The first I bought based on the picture, which was just an image they got from another sale, the second just told me what I wanted to hear (I told them I needed a 6), the last just looked at their own picture, which they copied from someone else just like the first seller and based their answer off of that. -
yes, i think you are right,
i am waiting for wwan power board, my ebay seller is quite nice...fyl i can make a hole in plastic to see 3-rd LED....
I will post here when i will finish
