No luck looking myself... and ome people have service guides, so.

The plastic piece that covers the speakers and contains the on/off switch plus the graphics switch, the Wireless switch, etc.

    What happened:
The Aluminium started to bend upwards out of nowhere... don't ask why... I don't know.
Even though the laptop is in warranty . I doubt its covered, and even if, its just cosmetic and not necessarily worth the hassle.

I have fidelled about a bit, it would be easy to replace the part - but, only if its not expensive, and if I - or someone else can find it.

Does someone have a part number or links? Or a price?

If I don't replace it at the moment I may save the information for later reference.

    (I'm in the UK)

    Thanks :)

Hi. I have the service manual for the final revision SZ. It contains all the part numbers for every part. Send me a PM with your email and I will send it to you.

PS. You also need to have Adobe reader installed, as well as MS Office to read it.

Does anybody else have that information? - I can't PM viiv :(

Just a little bump - superglue did "fix" the issue ina way - but replacing that cosmetic part may still be a good idea...

I'm curious - if it started to deform for no good reason, why should you fix it yourself? By supergluing it you've invalidated your recourse as well.

That is true - but there is one more issue.

My laptop was bought in Germany - I'm living in the UK.
Asking Sony to repair it would be more difficult.

And if I replace the part myself I don't expect the cost to be high - its just plastic with some aluminium.

But I need to find out what it is first...

Ah, I see. That is definitely one Sony-typical thing I want gone: The regional division of warranty. Almost every other major manufacturer has a portable or international-by-default warranty.

Oh its not too bad in Europe - 1 year everywhere in Europe.
But some places give you two years - example Germany, however, the second year can only be retained if you are in Germany, if you're not you need to travel there.

But it means I wouldn't have my laptop and its my only computer.

I doubt if your going to get the part you're looking for by itself. You could try Ebay though. May be try messaging a few sellers and see if that have that part. I know vaiorefurbs on ebay seem to sell and have a lot of Sony parts. I have used them before.

Also, i thought that you needed to buy a VOS pack in order to have the standard one year warranty in several countries in the EU.

Outside of the country you purchased your notebook in, you need the overseas warranty package, as I discovered when I brought my UX3/490N's here and tried to register the warranty. Crucially, I had to buy the overseas warranty package in the country I bought the Vaio in. So I had to buy the overseas warranty when I was back in the US, and also the warranty extension in the US as well - that's also quite an important point, you can't buy a local warranty extension even if you have the overseas warranty pack.

(ludicrous hassle in this day and age if you ask me, but then we're talking about a company whose corporate mindset is still in the mid-90's)

Of course, the UX's have not needed a single service despite a pretty hard life. I sometimes wish they'd break so I could see if that hassle I went through actually means I will actually get a non-UK machine repaired here - because knowing Sony, I'm almost certain they'll have a get-out clause.

As far as I am aware Sony products come with an EU warranty - its not really overseas.

But would anybody have the part number?
Because I can't look without knowing what to look for.
