First of all.. This is the first and might be the last time I purchase from Sony

    Welp first heres the goods:

    1. Windows Vista 32 bit works perfect with it with all drives functional
    2. I also bought G.skill ram at the same time and installed with ease and everything functional (4 gigs of ram running at 4-4-4-12 faster then the stock 5-5-5-12 or whatever stock is)
    3. Super awsome keyboard (although not worth it for all this mess)

Now for the bads of the purchase:
    1. Windows Vista 64 bit was installed in hopes this thread was correct.. claiming it had all 64 bit drivers to work with the sony SZ7 series : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3429201

    2. most of all the drives worked except for the key ones like the VIDEO card nvidia drivers which gave the error (not correct Videocard support, or OS)
    3. After putting back windows 32 bit. I keep getting a device sound deactiving and re-activating occationaly at random thru the speakers.
    4. With windows 32 bit reinstalled.. I can only use 3gigs of ram.. instead of the 4gigs i installed..
    5. Even if i wanted to stay with 64bit.. there was no way to re-adjust the brightness of the screen.. it was alway son full blast brightest! (but it wouldn't matter because Nvidia drivers would not install because nvidia refuses to install without the correct OS)

Welp.. and heres pics of it:

sony can suck it.. I hate this purchase now.. after all those windows vista problems and even if i wanted to keep 64bit windows on it.. it would be useless anyways without the Videocard drivers working. and without the brightness bring able to adjust from the keyboard... i mean hell the SOUND could be adjusted using the FN keys but the brightness was just not able to work

so.. now I reinstalled the 32 bit windows sony pre-installed on the system.. and I have 1 gig of ram just wasting away because 32 bit can't utilize it... and every now and then the freaken Deactivated and reactived sound will come on and off occational.. but yet no icon or any notification of what why that sound is even there... but its annoying me prety badly...

Well, I've got a european Vaio SZ and I haven't got any laptop related problems, except that the battery died - got it replaced without trouble.

(The only problem was that I live in a place where the next authorized repair centre is 100km away :D, a well, took some pictures of the cathedral in Cologne...(along the way))

So you change their software and you run into trouble then its Sony's fault...can't see why.

By the ways, have you folled Sony's instructions on how to instal the drivers or not? You can get that off their webpage.
Or you can try customer support, mine has been very friendly.

The thread you linked to is mine. Show me where it says the drivers are for Vistax64. I even replied to you on 7/7 to say the drivers were for 32 bit Vista only and you still cry about it here.

And you're mad at Sony because Vistax86 doesn't allow you to use 4GB of RAM. Why is that Sony's fault?

What's your average RAM usage? I use my SZ at work and even with a dozen apps and webpages loaded and some video encoding at the same time I barely use over 2GB.

I have had Vistax64 working 100%. I had to hunt around for the drivers, maybe you should do the same instead of getting mad at Sony for an OS they don't even support.

BTW, the SZ looks a LOT nicer in black. Another reason for you to hate your laptop :)

ohhh sorry for all the confusion. i guess your right. darn i made the wrong assumptions.. well atleast i have 32 bit windows again (because i made a restore disk before i installed 64 bit and did all that crazy stuff)

and i like it in 2 tone.. it looks just like my Fujitsu. Its not a complete business laptop. So i wanted it 2 toned, because i'll be using it for school alot and Internship.. and when i go to work they will probly give me a new laptop.

i think your right it truely is vista's fault. but Sony's website isn't any help with the 64 bit drivers. and Nvidia is sure not in any of help of 64 bit drivers either. The only real drivers that could work with 64bit from this laptop is just the Chipset driver. the Stamina mode videocard driver, and 1 of the card readers.

I think i learned my lesson with silver keys on older laptops. because they get stained kinda brown. I am happy with the color setup of this sony. as I would have only gotten this one and black. My old Fujitsu's laptop key's were silver and they stained prety quickly and required cleaning often.

But yeah your right.. i haven't owned this thing too long so i haven't really seen if black was a good or bad choice yet on the keys.

AND I THINK i found out whats making all that activation deactivation noise. I THINK its my battery charging.. does anyone have this same problem?

I didn't notice it, but thinkinh of it, sometimes !!! I do get things getting activated/runed off.... but that was right now after I reinstalled eversything...

    Notmally I don't notice anything.

Its just that when you do a Microsoft Sytem Restore things stop working, send you computer int Energy save mode and try to shut it down afterwards - it doesn't work because Microsoft made a mistake somewhere...then softaware goes haywire, so I'm reinstalling everything...

welp... i sorta wish i didn't talk so much trash about Sony SZ now.. haha heres an update on getting 64 bit windows to work..

i guess you can say iam VERY VERY VERY happy with the system now.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=273930

only problem is that the Vista's 64 bit version has DRM which blocks OCing of the Videocard.. but i guess i shouldn't be OCing anyways.

toodles guys. and i hope this thread can help people out with installing 64 bit

ohh yea i just wanted to add that the acivating and deactiving sound was totaly fixed after i installed 64 bit. i guess a fresh install really did the trick.. i knew i wasn't the only person having this problem.

but i been running 64 bit for a few days now and... none of those weird sounds from when i reinstalled 32 bit.
