We had a good idea this was going to happen. You will probably not see these updated until mid-year when Montevina comes around. That would be a good time for Sony to revamp all their laptops. Also, it is much easier to drop in a Penryn now without any retooling. All that is needed is a BIOS update.

I wasn’t expecting much with the refresh. It’s a similar pattern when the SZ was revised from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo. Only the motherboard and CPU changed.

I don’t think you will see HDMI until a new model S(X) series comes out. The way the SZ is designed it looks like there is just no room. And for new video card the 8400M GS seems the max as i read somewhere that chips on 128-bit bus take up physically more die space. As for the 64mb video ram it might be the same reason but having 64mb doesn’t seem to be a detriment to performance too much with turbocache used.

As for blue-ray i think it would be kinda hard for the full definition of blue-ray discs to be realised on a small 13.3 inch screen. Unless people are going to use it for the data storage use but then i would have thought the FZ and up models would be aiming at that market with SZ aimed more at travelling professionals.

I hoping if a new S(X) series made its based on the old S series design as i found that more appealing to use.

Why not? If Sony is seriously interested in winning the format war, they should include Blu-Ray drives in as many computers they sell as possible. Or at least include it as an option.

Moreover, Panasonic has already shipped samples of 9.5mm Blu-Ray drives to PC manufacturers. http://www.physorg.com/news117985063.html
SZ uses the same 9.5mm form factor so there should be no problem fitting that drive in an SZ machine. Right now, I have to use an external drive if I want to play Blu-Ray with my SZ. Having an external drive is not an elegant solution, especially for a notebook.

Since Panasonic already shipped the drives, I wonder which PC Manufacturers will be the first to include Blu-Ray in sub 4 pound notebook and when?

I agree. I am anxious to see it in the S(whatever) and the TZs since they both utilize the UJ-852S 9.5mm drives. They will have to up the GMA950 to X3100 though, so it can handle H.262.
