I'm wondering; does Sony ever go on sale for recent models?
Canada specifically, but I'm sure if there is a sale, it would be global?
    During the holidays for example?
I'm eyeing the VAIO SR right now, but it's just out of my price range...

Places such as Newegg always have holiday sales, and should mark down prices on most notebooks. Usually they discount certain notebooks on certain weeks. You just have to be on the lookout constantly.

he mentioned canada specifically, and newegg.ca does not carry vaio models.

I don't think sonystyle does much discounting on their laptops, sometimes there are deals such as a free accessory or movie, or a blu ray player thrown in, this was the case with the older FZ.

Uhm, perhaps if you wanted to get a pre built model at the sony store, you might be able to make a deal with the salesperson, or get a free bluetooth mouse thrown in or a memory stick or both. never hurts to talk to them to make a deal.

check other stores for pre build models around christmas, futureshop, best buy, london drugs, the brick, or any other store that may carry sony models. not sure if ncix does any sales but check their site as well. If a price is lower there go to the sony store and mention this to them and they might even beat the price (again this is on pre build models).

there is another option, if you can find a coupon to get 5 or 10% off a pre built vaio, then that is always a good way to save. But if you want to specifically build a model from the site to your specs I doubt you could get much of a discount unless you phone in the order and then try to get some deal.

code does not work in canada for SR, and our CTO models have no place to put the code in when go to checkout, at least I don't see a place to add it.

there are some but they are rare, and usually provided by sony canada, or some shopping sites that exist in canada I know some people posted some in the canadian vaio thread.

The price will go up if anything with the weaker Canadian dollar. Good thing though is you get 30 day price guarantee with Sony Canada.

I am waiting for a deal on the Z, who isn't though. When Sony will realize not many Z's are selling and that the economy is going down the drain, they might lower the price.

I would imagine that after the holidays, there will be a lot of returns and you would find some great deals in the Sony Outlet. Means waiting a couple months, and you wouldn't be able to customize, but the price would be good.

I have the SR and I love it. Definitely recommend. (and to my mind, the quality level is well worth a little premium)

The US prices will go down, not the Canadian ones tho.

However, for Canadian shoppers, use the following codes:

    VGNDCT100 ~ $100 off pre-configured models over $999

    CJRFD598 ~ 5% off orders over $499

    CJRFD198 ~ 10% off order over $1499

Offers above cannot be combined with other offers. There are no CTO offers.

I just tried this code and it says "Affiliate Promo VAIO 14 B R 1 is temporarily not available at this time." I looked on the Tech Bargains website where the code originated, and on that site it even says that the coupon should be valid through 10/31. So I called Sony and talked to a sales rep, and he had no idea why it isn't working. I told him that if he can give me the $300 off then I would order it right there on the phone, but he couldn't override it to give me the discount. He even talked to a supervisor and he also said no dice, although he did offer me $100 off (but I didn't take it). Has anyone been able to get this coupon to work?

yes, sir. that's a good strategy. Patience helps on purchases and I will wait wait wait. I kind regret not getting a 2 week used without box z530. But it was long distance on craigslist, so I was skeptical. But then I found out the seller was 100% legitimate but then it was too late. oh well.
