    Hi there,

    I just bought the new Vaio FZ 31 Z (T8200 Pennryn processor, 2.4ghz, 4go RAM - only 3 recognized by Windows- )

I have a problem: after 2 hours of installation (!!) I see that the fan is ALWAYS running very fast even if I don't use any applications. That makes a lot of noise, like my previous Dell desktop with Pentium 3.0gh (was very hot!)

So, I'm wondering if it is a problem or "normal". Tis machine is expansive and the fan running so fast when I do nothing has no sense..

    What do you think?

I own a Vaio FZ31Z too since two weeks. Till now I never heard a noisy fan. The notebook can become rather warm indeed, but the fan is almost noiseless with me. But I must admit that I havn't installed and used yet heavy resources consuming apps like Photoshop. Be sure all ventilation gates(bottom) are free so cold air can cool the machine.

Yes, yes, yes. This point cannot be stressed highly enough. You MUST keep those vents unobstructed. The ONLY time I have ever heard the fan noise folks have discussed is when I sat the machine on a bed which, of course, blocked the vents. The fan became quite noisy after a couple of minutes.

My FZ's fan is also always (most of the time) running and it's not noisy. May be I am used to that.

I don't think there has EVER been a moment when my fan was not running. But that one time when I blocked the bottom vents, man oh man it was REALLY running!!! 'Twas quite noisy.
