OK, I finally got a chance to visit the Sony Style store here in San Francisco. Ducking away from Web 2.0, I had a chance to play with both SZ and the new C series.
The C series has the same SZ keyboard but its five-pound heft makes the computer more solid-feeling and the C keyboard doesn't flex as much as the SZ. While some found the C series "thick," I think it looks fine and is light enough (had to simulate the feeling, since the battery was removed).
I also liked the C's textured palmrest and keyboard surround, which looks very cool. The copper "stripe" is a very nice touch and adds a dash of fashion to this lappy. But I would love to see the Urban Gray one with the orange stripe.
I compared the C to SZ and besides the less-flexing keyboard, I immediately noticed that the LCD of the SZ is brighter than the C series. Too bad, otherwise the C lappy would be almost perfect. The C trackpad also has a more precise feel than that of the SZ.
Then again, you can't beat those stunning carbon-fiber finishes of the SZ. The CF texture makes for a very sexy notebook. And that featherweight (again without battery) feel must be experienced. I also confirmed that the antenna comes off easy by pulling it off.![]()
Oh, while you're at it, you might as well pick up one of those new KDL-40XBR2 LCD TVs, cause it's the s..t!![]()
Too bad my horoscope says this about buying a computer: "Do so after the new moon, November 20, not before."![]()
