    Hello fellows,

I am having an extremely frustrating time figuring out what the heck is wrong with my laptop. Up until today, my SZ260 had been working perfectly fine, but today I realized that I did not have any sound coming out of the built-in speakers. First off, I instinctively cheked the Volume Control, and Speaker and Microphone testing in the control panel. Everything is unmuted, and all of my drivers are default and enabled. I have troubleshooted for countless hours now, and I still have no type of sound. This includes music from MP3's, any Microsoft applications, or other applications. Although my sound does not work, when I plug in external speakers or headphones, the sound works perfectly fine. Does this mean that my built-in speakers have blown? I never turn them up to full blast, and I have never had a problem with them for the two short months I've had my laptop. I have gone as far as reformatting my computer, and still I have no sound.

    A SMALL POSSIBILITY:
I'm not sure if this incident has anything to do with my speakers not working, but I'll shoot anyways. Earlier today I was transferring some pictures from my digital camera card reader which is plugged in via USB. When properly disconnecting the hardware, I immediately put my pointer on the "Safely Remove Hardware" down on the task bar, and the words Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device Drive (F :), (H :), (I :)" Is there a small possibility that one of those drives could have been the speakers that I just disconnected? I'm pretty sure this is a lame question, but I'm just so **** desperate. If any of you have any suggestions or comments, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

    P.S
I was looking through the entire forum, and I found this thread that some guy posted about a year ago:

    "Speaker problems on S-series

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a sony s-series and after a month of use, the speakers on my laptop stopped functioning. This is very strange because when I plug in headphones or my external speakers I still get sound output. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance."

I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM

i also had this problem. I think its a loose connection. I fixed it by putting on some music, inserting my headphones then removing them again. but instead of just pulling them out when i removed them i gave them a little jig inside the headphone port and moved em around a bit. Eventually the sound came back on. Just try jigging your headphone plug inside the port a bit and see what happens.

    hey,

Thanks ringmasta, i tried doing that for about an hour, and still no sound. Do you definitely think it's a hardware problem? Does anybody else have any suggestions? Your advice is much appreciated.
