    Hi everbody,

I recently purchased the Sony Vaio SZ480. Everything works well, but I have a widescreen 1440x900 monitor and for some reason that graphic card (geforce 7400 go) won't let me set that resolution (max 1280x1024). This isn't right, right? geforce 7400 should have plenty of memory to display 1440x900 resultion shouldn't it?

If for some reason it is not possible to set a resultion like that, what is my alternative choice? There arent any 1280x800 monitors out there, and I don't want to work on any other resolution then the native one of the monitor. And I do want a widescreen...

    Please help...

1440x900 is the native resolution for your wide screen monitor.

and yes your video card should able to set at 1440x900. with Nvidia control panel, you can pick the resolution as you want.

    hope this help.. good luck

!!!!!!!!!!sorry edited again uploaded wrong fig/pictures!!!!!!!!!!

Vista is capable of limiting screen resolution based on GPU Power.
You can turn of dual monitor view by setting only one monitor as default in nVidia Control Panel so as to extend the resolution limit.
You get more resolution based on GPU power.
since you just bought this rig new you definatly need to do alot of editing if you will be playing nextgen games on it. go to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ and research more

    Go to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ nvsz.inf_xx0xxxx0
    'xx0xxxx0' = any letter/number combination
    Look for nvsz.inf (figA)
Confirm driver model as 9813 (figB)
Copy 'nvsz.inf_xx0xxxx0' folder into any location of choice eg. desktop
We will be editing the copy
Open nvsz.inf again and edit as in figC
Add that line of text and
    Substitute xxxxXxxxx with 720x400 720x480 768x576 852x480 853x480 854x480 864x480 1024x640 1152x864 1280x720 1280x854 1280x960 1360x768 1365x768 1366x768 1400x1050 1440x900 1600x900 1600x1000 1600x1024 1800x1440 1920x1080 1920x1200 2048x1280 2048x1536 2560x1600 3840x2400x8,16,32,64 and Save

The problem here is Sony disabled some resolutions (stupid move)
Now install the driver using the have disk method as in figD

    Done!

this resolution would only work with a dual link dvi port, but the one in the dock is a single link port. maximum resolution here is 1920x1200.

it says dvi-d on it, I thought it was dual link, there are other posts in this forum referencing it as such too... The bigger issue is that on my 370, the gfx card probably doesn't support 2560 x 1600 =/
