This laptop has not seen frequent use. I mainly use my desktop and sometimes my older 17" laptop to watch movies in bed. I haven't turned the Sony for a week or so.

I installed the Notebook Hardware Control software and I was trying to find and install the Memory Stick drivers for Vista. I installed the wrong driver which caused my laptop to crash repeatedly until I went into safe mode and uninstalled the Memory Stick pci driver. I got back online and decided to search some more for the driver.

The laptop was halfway across the desk and I got tired of reaching out to type, so I lifted it up to bring it over. Then suddenly, I heard this loud whirring noise. I put it down and quickly exited the NHC software thinking it caused the problem, though I do not believe that's the case anymore.

The events prior to the noise may not have anything to do with the problem, but I thought I would give a more detailed account so someone can help me.

I filmed the cpu fan so you can understand better what I'm talking about. As you can see, the noise only starts when the fan spins. Seems as if it is wobbling. If I gently slow it down (but not stopping it from spinning), the noise stops.

    Any ideas?

    Hi

At seven seconds into the video the fan starts spinning, If you take a closer look, you can see that the fan is not dead center, hence it clips the side of the housing, thus causing the noise, until such time that the centrifugal force on the fan makes it run true.

You need a new fan mate. I had the same issue with my T260P.

Ditch the T, and join us with a TZ.

I was hoping it was just the sticker that was off center. So there's no way to fix other than replacing it? Is it easy to take it off? I'm thinking about replacing it myself since I already took apart the case and it's sitting on my shelf in bits.
