Rachel -- i received my Service Manual for the TT Series from Sony today. I think i found what you were looking for.

On the schematic, it has "Clock Generator" and the following sequence: ICS9LPRS369EKLFT

I think that's what you were looking for.

Let me know if that works. The schematics are intimidating.

I'm bringing this thread back to life......
thepinkpanther, if you are out there, please let me know if the 8GB worked for you, I am having problems with my GSkill set.

I have the same "American" model as you.

    Thanks!

So i thought i'd update for those who are may be thinking about doing the bluray upgrade this might save you some money. I know it was suggested that i needed to buy a bezel.
Anyway, i've done this upgrade. I went for a UJ232A drive the same one that the TT uses.
I did not need to buy a bezel though as Sony used different DVD drives in the TT series. I had one that was used in the later models the slightly more expensive Mata UJ862AS and it was a straight swap for me. The drive cost me £180 new.

I've written about my experiences in the TT owners thread.

    hi guys!

since this ram-upgrade topic for the tt-series already exists, i'm not going to open a new one and just let you know here what happend during my first attempt to upgrade my laptop.

    model: TT11VN
    os: windows 7 pro 64bit
    bios: R2022M4
    stock ram: 2x 2GB "ELPIDA PC3-6400S CL6 DDR3-800 (EBJ21UE8BAU0)"
    new ram: 2x 4GB "Corsair PC3-8500S CL7 DDR3-1066 (CM3X4GSD1066)"
    RESULT: NOT WORKING

i was only able to get one of the new modules working at a time. the vaio wouldn't boot with both installed at the same time. i'm not sure what the problem is, but both ram modules work if used individually or in combination with the stock ram installed, which gave me 6GB of total memory. so they are not defective.

any suggestions? should i try a different bios or maybe order different ram?

vestax someone else posted last week about their TT not recognising 8GB of Corsair ram. None of their ram modules was working though.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/555538-vaio-tt-ram.html

I recommended to them that they should try Crucial, Micron or Hynix ram. I would also recommend Elpida ram if you can get it as no-one has had any problems with these ram. Quite a few people have now done this upgrade and had no problem even with the very first generation TT1's.

I think it's best to stick to those brands above. I'm using the same BIOS as you and i have 8GB installed.

At some point i will compare the Corsair ram to the others to see if there is a difference there

    Edited to add:
Just from my brief search i can see that other people have had problems with this ram in different notebooks.

seems like corsair ram is not like what it used to be years ago.
i'll try a different brand of ram and let you know. thanks so far!

It seems like your memory modules has different timings. Try to install one, take a look at BIOS, write them down, then install second one and do the same, and compare. As far as I know even one manufacturer has different warehouses of the memory chips and sometimes they are not compatible in one module. I saw it once, because I look at the chips on one module and once I saw that 3 chips was the same, and one is different.

I've sold my TT, can't work on PC's anymore, now I'm Mac user, way better :) Also I took away my modules, from my TT, and install them to my MacBook Pro, and works just great. :) My wife still has gold TT (TT11RM/N) :) She has only 4Gb of ram, and it's crap :)))

    hi nectop!

the bios of a tt is so simple, you can't check anything in there. the only memory-related information in the bios is the total size of installed ram (that's actually ridiculous) and i don't have another ddr3 laptop to check it. those two modules are identical as far as i'm concerned anyways. i ordered new 2x 4GB kingston valueram yesterday. same price, different company, but hopefully more luck...

by the way, is there a benchmark-topic for vaio's with ssd drives? i could post some if there is any interest in that (put a 128gb crucial ssd into my tt).

There was a bios hack, that can enable hidden parameters of BIOS. I think you can try to check them. I can't find it now, my wife's TT not hacked.

I'll try to find it, I remember that I use to find it when I search for Intel Virtualisation in TT, that was locked, and can be enabled with hacked BIOS. Try to Google for VAIO Virtualistaion Enabler, maybe you'll find something interesting.

And warranty unfortunately will be void!

I can only imagine the modded BIOS invalidating your warranty if you had a problem and couldn't revert your BIOS to another one before you sent it in for repair.
I'm sure searching for your BIOS version and the word BIOS will bring you positive searches on the first few pages of google.

UPDATE - the package just arrived and i've installed and tested:

    2x 4GB "Kingston PC3-8500 CL7 DDR3-1066 (KVR1066D3S7/4G)"
and it's working like a charm. now we know it probably wasn't about any
bios settings, so i won't bother with risking my warrenty. now i call this
machine pimped to the max for reasonable money. great! :D

sorry for digging this up again, but it might be better to keep this matter in one topic. i'm thinking about upgrading my tt with a blu-ray-drive, but after a long search i realized that the only drive available is the PANASONIC UJ232A. every other option won't fit because the bezel is incompatible without serious adjustment(s) and the height of 9.5mm narrows down the possible drives big time (the two mounting brackets which screw the drive to the laptop case won't fit on the more common 12.7mm drives), which basically leaves only the one which was mentioned here.

while writing this i realized that i might just drop this idea, because it seems not worth it. considering the panasonic drive would cost me >$150 + shipping + possible tax/customs + proper bezel when there are standalone blu-ray-players available for less than half the price... darn!!

anyways, to maybe help others which find this topic: what is the part number and price for the proper blu-ray-drive bezel (panasonic drive) for the vaio tt?

vestax, i moved your post to this thread.
If your laptop uses a Panasonic dvd drive then you don't need to purchase another bezel. I have done this upgrade and used my original bezel as I originally had the Panasonic dvd drive.
If your laptop comes with the Optirac dvd drive then you will need to purchase another bezel unless you do possibly (and still i'm not sure if it would work) a good bit of modding.

no worries, it fits this topic very well. is it normal that i didn't get any kind of notification about it though? strange (and counterproductive).

wow, $55 for the bezel. i'll pass on this upgrade i guess... but thanks for the part numbers. i'll keep those in mind until the prices for those panasonic drives drop by another $50 or so. too bad i didn't know about this before, i might have bought a tt with a panasonic drive instead.

Sometimes PM's are sent if a post is moved. That's up to a moderator to determine though. It was pretty impossible to miss this thread and you seem to have located it just fine.

The other post was due to be auto closed in less than a week as old inactive threads are auto closed after one year. There have been a few posts very recently about a TT replacement and it was judged to shut than to have a year old thread about a TT replacement active.

    hello Rachel,

the Vaio VGN-TT230NB spec say that the rams are upgradable to 4GB only,
and what about to get the 64 bit OS .....and place 8gb?

Some Sony computers (or computers in general) say that only X amount of RAM is officially allowed but in actuality the computer supports more. The TT was one of these computers where some versions can support 8GB even though official literature only states 4GB.

I'd recommend downloading the Crucial memory thing from crucial.com to tell you what is the max amount of RAM you can put in your computer.

All TT1-2 models spec will say that these models are upgradeable to 4GB. This is though not the case. Hardware is the same. TT3 models on came with official 8GB support. There is no difference. As we've seen in this thread and in the TT owners' lounge TT1-2 owners have upgraded to 8GB.
I would just recommend you though to stay away from Corsair ram as a couple of people have had a problem with this ram.

I would recommend Micron/Crucial, Elipdia or Hynix ram.
64bit drivers are available on the Sony Support website.

Rachel, thanks SOOOO much. You're fantastic. Given that you have a TT too, would you be able to tell me what connector I need for my SSD? I understand that it takes a SATA2 interface... Does that mean that I need a SATA2 connection or a uSATA? I've seen both being alluded to and got somewhat confused. Thanks again for all your help! :)

You need a micro Sata ssd, some people just call them 1.8 SATA's. A uSATA is just a micro Sata drive with the casing removed.
This laptop is a Sata 2 laptop. You could use a Sata 3 drive but you won't see Sata 3 benefits. Hope that helped.
Btw, i see that your other post in the TT RAID thread was deleted earlier. That's because this forum does not permit cross posting.
