Hello,
I seem to be having a few problems with my wi-fi connection at home.
Up until yesterday it was working fine and i was getting great dl speeds and surfing without any problems. So all of a sudden the connection died out.
Normally i reset the connection and all is well. Well i tried that and no luck.
When i clicked to look for a network connection, nothing happens.
I click refresh and nothing happens. I did switch off the wireless button and turn it back on and restarted the laptop.
But i am still unable to get a connection. The router is fine as other laptops in the house seem to get a connection without any problems.
Any ideas what the problem could be? I have had this TT11M for not even 2 months and not had any problems up until this.
Kind Regards

Hey, I would uninstall and reinstall the wifi drivers / software again from Sony. Hope that works for you.
-
if you didn't disable the system restore you could try to roll the system back as well. As long as the hardware is OK that should help.
-
I have a TT11M/N Vaio.
Thanks -
Afterwards go to SONY site and download the driver >> -
I think it's the router. Someone changed the wireless settings. If not you then you should change your WPA key. Anyways just double check the router is doing fine and connect the Sony TT to it with the ethernet cable.
Once you're connected go to Start --> All Programs --> Accessories and select "Command prompt".
Once the window opens type in "ipconfig".
Look at the Default Gateway IP address. That's the router.
Open up Internet Explorer and type in that IP address and hit enter. It'll ask you for your username which is usually "admin" and your password which is "password" or usually it's written on the back of the router. Once the router window opens look under Wireless Settings. I always choose channel 11 in channel options. It has minimal interference in my opinion. Logout and then refresh the wireless network list. -

Thanks for the help zimbros12.
I went to command prompt and there it showed the wireless connection of being disconnected. I did follow your instructions by typing the Default Gateway IP address into IE, but i think the password i enter must be incorrect.
The only thing on the bottom of my router is the SSID and Network Key and have tried both of these as well and no luck. -

Other laptops in the house might work on B only but not G. Enable both of them or G only in you Wireless Settings. However not having access to the router is not good.
Oh to get to the Device Manager go to Start ---> Run and then type in "devmgmt.msc" and look under "Network Adapters" if the wireless device is there. -
You don't mention which router you have but some of the units out there will stop transmitting on certain bands (like g, but not n) when there is a lot of interference.
Additionally if the WAP is doing NAT and/or providing DHCP for the computers, its possible that another device "grabbed" the previously assigned address.
In all cases try powering down everything including the router and then bring them back up but in the following order.
WAP first, then TT, then any other devices.
I have a linksys where this occurs occasionally and that fixes it. -
Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100.
I have a NetGear modem/router. It doesn't have any buttons on it. -
I did try that and no luck, doh! -
got one more thing then I'm out of ideas.
There is an update to the Wifi driver on sony's support site. I have a TT as well. I used the Vaio Care app on the machine and it located it. The notes say it improves reliability.
Good luck -
You have to find a way to access your router settings. Is there a model number on the back? What is it? A router reset should set the username and password to factory default. Router is not listed under devices, it's external.
-
I dont think it's the router per se because the other machines would not connect either.
Did you try right clicking on the wireless network icon in the task bar and selecting diagnose and repair?
Just tried that on mine and it did reset the connection (new ip address and made me re-authenticate) -
It's great but not having access to your own router settings is not cool.
-
-
The router doesn't have any number or anything on it to identify it.
It is a NETGEAR modem/router.
Nah i have tried the right clicking of the icon and repairing, but that hasn't helped either, doh! -
When i right click it says to switch on the wireless switch, which i do.
It then brings up VAIO Smart Network with the following 3 options:
WLAN (The green light is on for this)
Bluetooth (The green light is on for this)
LAN
Each option has an arrow next to it. -
Try to restore ur lap to a point in time where everything was working ok >>
-
I will have to give that a go, once i have saved a few bits and bobs.
Hopefully the restore will work. -
Good luck and return

Look it up on the Netgear site, there has to be a picture matching your router: http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/list/sno/0
You still have the router access problem, I would not okay this. Even if you revert to a previous restore point you still not going to find out how to access your router. -
This is the one i have:

Yep saw it and tried it and no luck.
I restored it as well and no luck either, doh! -
That can't be good. Try to access your router and whenever you regain access to its settings you could probably solve your problem. I'd ask Netgear for support, give them whatever serial, model number you find on the back of the router. I don't have any PDF program to open their op manual but maybe you do.
-
I finally got it to work, the wifi that is, whoo hoo! I switched off the WLAN from VAIO Smart Network and then switched it on and whoo hoo!
Thank you everyone for your help, it is most appreciated! -
This means the reset button from the router did its job, you just had to turn the switch off and on from the laptop. Glad it did it for you but please don't ignore the router problem. You have to gain control of it.
