Does anyone have SmartWi working on Windows 7? I have a Sony TX. I clean-installed Windows 7. Works great except I want to get the EVDO WWAN working. I tried installing from the Sony website:

    1. SOOOTH-39500000-US.EXE - Sony Notebook Utilities
    2. SODSPI-00445702-US.EXE - Sony Programmable I/O Driver
    3. SOASSL-01298203-US.EXE - Sony Shared Library
    4. NODOTH-01259602-US.EXE - EVDO Driver
    5. SOAOTH-01466800-US.EXE - SmartWi

And SmartWi appears to be working except that when I try to switch WWAN on/off, I get told that my hardware switch is off - except that is is in fact on.

Any clues? (And if there's some alternative to SmartWi for using the WWAN, that would be great to hear... SmartWi under Vista was so buggy...)

    Thanks,
    Rich

Well I am using a vaio TZ laptop but I got smartwi and gps working without problems using the tz290 smartwi for vista.

    SOAOTH-13383400-US.exe

I installed the shared library, evdo drivers and the smartwi. Everything works perfectly.

It's a PITA to have to use smartwi to control everything but i've read about alternatives like miniwi etc but never could find much rock solid links to try them out. I will see what I can find.

I know you are using a TX and not a TZ but figured this might help. Hope it did.

    Aloha.

    Another thing, try running

    "C:\Program Files\Sony Corporation\SmartWi Connection Utility\Wwanmoduleutils /WwanOnOnly"

I use this shortcut to turn on my wwan without turning off my wlan so I can use both at the same time.

It's not even compatible with Vista (no IPv6 support, breaks MS API by specifying area in pixels and fonts in pt, doesn't handle multi-homed connections). It's one of the most amateurish apps I've seen in a long time, and Sony should be ashamed to have released it.
Unless you need WWAN, ditch it.

Good news - my problem is fixed! I found out that it had nothing to do with Windows 7 compatibility. I just didn't have all the right Sony drivers installed. I ended up installing everything from the Sony support site that looked like it might possibly have to do with WWAN: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNTXN29N

I think it was this one that ultimately got the "hardware switch is turned off" problem fixed though others probably contributed as well: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNTXN29N&upd_id=2402&os_id=29

I have a VGN-TT190 and have same issue. Sony told me that don't have a Win7 driver yet. Intrestingly, Sprint, my ISP, told me that they believe that no driver update can be developed because the modem is on the motherboard and canno be upgraded...
One more thing - if I try to reinstall the driver from the VAIO Wireless Wizard, after some error messages the WAN connects to Sprint, but then the WiFi doesn't connect to my wireless network. If i then manually shut off the wireless switch and then turn it back on, the WiFi works again, and Sprint WAN doesn't work.

After hours of support with Microsoft, Sony and Sprint (the ISP who is providing the cellar internet connection) an "escalated" Sony support person recommended that I reinstall te Vista SmartWi and modem drivers - and voila! It all works. He explained that Win7 and Vista are architecturally very similar and hence the Vista drivers will often work on Win7.

By the way, Sprint said their technicians determined that their wireless drivers won't be updatable for the built-in modems in Sony VAIOS, and the Microsoft support people disconnected me when they got to the same point in diagnosing the problem on FIVE (!) separate occassions. I guess it's the way tey tell you they can't help you.
