Hi all,
I've a Sony TX1HP notebook (European variant). Generally I'm VERY pleased with it but so far I wasn't able to solve one issue - when sending it to stand-by or hibernation I can't bring it back to life again.
When initiating the stand-by mode the screen goes black but nothing can bring it back (the power-on light signals operation and occasionally there's a disk access but the screen remains black).
When trying to send it to hibernation the notebook starts preparing to do so but then it hangs indefinately.
Any clues ?
Thanks
Klaus

First off, I'd encourage you to not use hibernation, it has a funny way of corrupting files. If you wait a while does it come back from standby? I mean, if you give it a few minutes and perhaps hit a key or move the mouse, will it come to life?

Could this be a software issue? Are you running any utilities/hacks that automatically starts or takes up a lot of resources?

No reaction whatsoever regardless what I do. Switching off works ...

The only major thing that I did was to upgrade to 1.5GB. I haven't tested the situation in the default (512MB) mode yet. I already noticed that the system swap space was too small probably assuming 512MB but changing this (to managed by system) had no effect.
There was an issue with hibernation in Win XP with notebooks at and beyond 1GB but on paper this has been fixed in sp2 and when trying to reinstall the patch this is refused (it's in there already).
I can live without hibernation but living without stand-by would be annoying.
Would it help to re-install the system with the recovery partition ? It seems somehow pointless - maybe there's a problem with the ASIC installation. Seems sort of pointless though (I haven't really done much except installation/deinstallation of some standard application).
?
Thanks

I'd go to an XP restore first, then look at re-installing the OS.

FWIW, I found the problem after reinstalling the system.
It's hard to believe but the origin of the problem is my usually preferred Firewall (Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.4). I can't really imagine a meaningful logic between IP traffic and PowerManagement but installing the firewall corrupts Standby/Hibernation and after deinstalling it everything's fine again. Bizarre ...
