    Hey Everyone,

I'm in the market for an ultraportable and came across the TX610 on Sony's website. It's a bit more expensive than the other ultraportables I've been looking at (namely the Asus z33A). Is the extra money worth it for this machine?

Any other comments about it would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks,
    Walden

    You should also checkout www.siliconpopculture.com/sonytr,
there's a forum for Vaio T and S owners there and you can ask several TX users as well.

I would say not to purchase it and get a Fujitsu Lifebook P instead, such as the just released P7120D model, very nice. Sony's ultraportables are overpriced and come with shoddy technical support. Fujitsu may not have the brand name, but everything else in their ultraportables makes up for it. I would only get a TX if they were considerably cheaper than the competition.
I just checked out a TX650 at my CompUSA and the only thing I liked about it was its screen, everything else was a disappointment such as the keyboard. Though some TX owners will tell you they love everything about the machine, I personally like the older T series myself.

I have a tx and i have no complaints about the keyboard but I advise you to go to a local store first and type on it in a word document for about 15 to 20 minutes to see if you like it. The key depth is shallow compared to others but like I said I've had no problem adjusting to it so I guess it'll depend on the person.

The overall notebook is very nice. One of the reasons I got the TX was the screen resolution and the perfect (in my opinion) 11.1" screen. The screen is thin but strong. I've pressed on the back of mine to see if I get ripples and I've even flexed my screen to some extent to see if I get any distortion.

I must admit the fit and finish on this machine is average. The complaint I have is the keyboard bezel. On the bottom left palm rest there is some flex, I wish it had reinforcement there, but I guess it flexes is because it only houses the SD/memory stick card which is hollow.

All I can suggest is that you go to a store (probably frys) and test the TX and the P series.

I'd like to say that I got ripples very, very easily from the screen by pressing it just a little bit but I found no problems with the keyboard bezel, I didn't find any flex on the bottom left palm rest.

well I did see a lot of flex and ripples in the screen when I tested the best buy floor model and that almost deterred me away. Then I went to circuit city and compusa to see if it would do the same thing and it didn't. Its either the best buy floor model has been treated liek trash or sony has some quality control issues.

Rahulnirmal, you didn't notice any flex at the portion of the palmrest left of the touchpad? Hmm.. I shall go to the electronics stores and see for myself.
