Hello, I'm about to buy a new laptop and I need some advice.

I'm interested in the ultraportability of the Sony TX series, but I can't seem to find the difference between the TX650 and the TX651, and the fact that the 651 is cheaper on the Sony's site despite being a higher number confuses me.

Can anyone please explain the difference between these two laptops (I know it's minimal), and which one is better.

    Thanks.

The only difference between the 650 and 651 is that the 650 has the WAN accessibility. That is, it can connect to a Cingular Cell Phone signal to connect via WAN to the internet. Of course you need to subscribe to this service. The 651 however does not have this feature. Depending if you need it or not, most I believe don't really need the feature. I got the 650 only because at the time it was the cheapest.

Oh, all the TX series from 650 to 670 are the same except for the size of their RAM. That's about it. Perhaps the 690 as well. The 650/651 have 512mb RAM (Soldered), the 670 has 1 GB RAM, and I believe the 690 has 1.5GB Ram. Anyone care to confirm this for me?

I believe that's accurate. It should be noted they charge a fortune for the EDGE service on this notebook, which is mystifying. You can get the much better service through Verizon for the same price.

Thanks a lot, I was planning to get rid of the EDGE feature anyway in case I get the TX so it's good to know the 651 doesn't have it.

Did any of you get the port replicator? If so, are you able to stay connected to the network with it? One other person posted that they were having an issue staying connected through the port replicator and I have the same issue. I stay connected no problem when pluged into the notebook or wirelessly. Have two port replicators with the same problem.
