OK, I have a client who has a TX750P/B and he wants another 512MB stick of memory.

I have read mixed descriptions of what type of memory is found in that laptop, and which type to buy. NewEgg and Amazon.com ( state the memory found in that unit is 512MB SODIMM 400MHz memory. OK. However, when I got to Kingston, it says it recommends the 533MHz stuff.

So which is it? 400MHz or 533MHz? I don't want to purchase the wrong speed memory and cause problems.

Has anyone upgraded their memory in the TX750P/B? Which did you use?

Everything I can find seems to state that the TX750P/B has a 400MHz FSB, so you'll want to get 400MHz memory.

Have you checked crucial's memory test site?

I don't know what it came with, however, a site I trust for RAM information is crucial.com. Here's what it says about the TX750...

    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=VAIO+VGN-TX750P/B

P.S. From what I've always heard, if you put in faster RAM, it will not cause problems... the RAM will just run at the slower speed.

So since Crucial and Kingston are both recommending 533MHz memory, should I go with that? Arg, I don't know what to do here!

    It uses PC2-3200/400MHz DDR2 RAM.

However PC2-4300/533MHz DDR2 RAM will work fine because there is SPD info that describes the timings to use in each situation embedded in the memory module.

I'm currently using PC2-4300 that I had left over from my Dell E1705 and it works fine. I ran memtest and prime95 to qualify the memory.
