    Hi fellas:

Well, it is my turn to have my battery clip broken. I pulled out my TZ from its case, and the spring release side of the battery was loose. After separating it, the spring release based battery clip was broken.

Sony is going to send me a new battery fortunately. However, has anyone been able to salvage the battery with the broken clip? Is there any type of fix, so the battery can be attached normally?

    Thanks

By the way, I tried super glue, and it didn't work. I doubt that epoxy would help, because the surface area of the broken clip is very small. This kind of issue is ridiculous for a $2000 laptop.

Did you have Sony's extended warranty service plan? I hope it doesn't happen to me, but it would be nice to know that sony acknowledges the problem and fixes it without the extended warranty.

I got mine from Dynamism. When mine broke, Dynamism sent it to Sony of Japan, who wanted $160 to fix it. A quick Pricegabber search shows that that is pretty much the going rate for a new one.

Oh and for us early adopters, this kind of issue is ridiculous for a $ 3000 laptop.

Hi thelead, I do have the extended accidental warranty. Guess what! It doesn't cover the battery!

After a few phone calls totaling 2 hours, one of the Sony rep said that I'll get a one time accommodation. The next time that the same thing happens again, I would need to send everything, so Sony can check the real cause of this.

Man, who did the design of the battery attachment for the TZ?!?!

Are you speaking about the large battery right?

The standard one--the one that comes with the laptop.

That is the large capacity. In the US we get VGP-BPL11, other countries may get the small which is BPS11. The extended one is bpx11, which is the biggest one with the large bulge underneath.

Shoot - I'd heard this was only a problem with the BPX11, I'd been making sure not to bag the unit ith it attached. I didn't know the BPS11 had this issue.

    OK -
Mine broke too, as I was pulling it out of a Sony Slip case.... I tried calling Sony support and they refuse to replace the battery as they say it is physical damage.

Further more they say that they have never heard of this issue before !
I tried to escallate the problem but they said that talking to their manger would not help and sent be to customer relations...

I'm going to keep trying, since this is an obvious design flaw with the battery.
If you want to share your Sony case numbers on this issue with me by PM, it might help the cause.
