The sonystyle website lists the TZ150 as having 1x1 GB of ram with only one slot and a 2GB max of memory.

However, after speaking to a sonystyle representative, they have informed me that it indeed has 2 slots--1 dedicated of 1Gb and 1 slot that is expandable. The representative referred me to crucial.com to order memory because "they are one of our suppliers".

Is this information correct? And if there are indeed two slots, then what is stopping me from ordering a 2Gb chip of RAM and expanding to 3Gb?

The motherboard limits the amount of ram that can be used.

But how many slots does it have? The sonystyle website says 1 and the representative assured me of two slots with 1 GB dedicated, meaning that I could buy the 1GB chip instead of ordering the 2Gb chip in order to expand to 2Gb.

Only one slot on the TZ series but several retailers list this incorrectly -- you need a single 2GB stick.

Any idea on how much I should be looking to pay to buy the memory? Crucial lists the 2 Gb version at $79. Is that too much?

If you have the money, it's so cheap that there's no reason you shouldn't upgrade. The performance increase is significant from what I understand.
