Anyone wanna post their scores here on sony tz? I am running XP Pro (portable one no bloat), u7500, 2gb mem, 4200rpm drive. Results are attached. Overall mark is 35315. Any ideas on how this can be improved or how good/bad of a score this is? Thanks!

    My result in attachement.

    Spec:
    U7600
    1GB ram
    160GB HDD 5400rpm
    Win XP (bo bloat)

the difference is not that high, to spend $xxx for SSD, or trying to burn your CPU with overclocking..

Which TZ model do you have? Is that 160GB a 1.8 inch? If so any idea where I could buy one of those?

No, in Japan, you can custom order the TZ and they have an option where you can get a 2.5" HDD instead of the DVD drive, so he has the original TZ90 CTO model with a 160gb HDD in place of the DVD drive. Now they have the TZ92 CTO with a 250gb 2.5" HDD option.

EDIT: There is actually a 1.8" 160gb HDD out there, but it uses a different connector and is only for Ipods and other media players, so nothing for us so far.

I found this Samsung Hard Drive that is 120GB, and 5400rpm, zif connector. It is model number HS122JC. This should work right? Also, any idea what parts would be needed to take out the DVDRW drive and put in the extra HDD? I have yet to use the DVDRW drive! I could remove the 1.8 incher and put in a 250gb 2.5" 5400rpm drive! (or could keep the 1.8 as extra storage).

Yeah, I also never use my DVD drive and would much rather have a 2.5" HDD in its place.

There's several members here who would love to swap out the DVD drive for a 2.5" HDD. But I have not seen anyone who has done the procedure, maybe in Japan? I would like to know if anyone has done it.

We have some models here in the U.S.A (eg. TZ298NX and TZ290NCR) which have a 250gb 2.5" HDD instead of the DVD drive.

I found Sony's official parts page for that model here.

    http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/web/productSearch.do

Maybe you could find the parts to do the procedure there?
They have its 2.5" 250gb HDD listed which is part number MHY2250BH for example.

EDIT: Look at this thread of a guy here who opened up his Japanese TZ90 and has of pictures of it with a 2.5" HDD instead of DVD drive.

So I went to the sony site and looked up the TZ170 and TZ298 and copied the parts list into excel. I have eliminated anything that is obvious (SSD, etc) and anything that was on both lists. Here is what is left:

    187403411 PWB, FPC-102 FLEXIBLE PRINT Yes $69.78 - TZ170
    196539214 HARNESS, CONNECTOR WITH Yes $35.98 - TZ298
    310626501 BRACKET ODD R 95 Yes $8.74 - TZ170
    310626601 BRACKET ODD L 95 Yes $6.49 - TZ170
    310626901 BRACKET HDD 18 Yes $11.75 - TZ170
    310627102 BRACKET HDD SH Yes $13.24 - TZ298
    310627802 BEZEL ODD 1SP Yes $25.27 - TZ298
    X21774312 ASSY BUTTON POWER Yes $33.42 - TZ170
    X21775252 ASSY BUTTON T/P FP/CB Yes $43.03 - TZ170
    X21774101 ASSY BEZEL ODD 95 BK Yes $43.03 - TZ170

Looks like if you wanna replace the DVDRW drive with a HDD then you need those three parts above marked TZ298 (and a 2.5 HDD of course). Thoughts?
