    Hi,

I have a Sony TZ which needs upgrading and I was looking to put an Intel X18-M into it.

I have done some research and that the TZ has a ZIF connector and its PATA?

I know the Intel X18-M is SATA so that isn't going to be compatible at all...

So what other aftermarket options are there?

Samsung has a good one (those are the ones sony use if i'm correct) but Mtron also makes a 1.8" zif pata SSD drive that is very fast (maybe even faster then the samsung drive).

There are also slower SSD drives available from runcore and supertalent but those are developed to be put in netbooks. A lot cheaper but also a lot slower especialy with random writes, the cheap MLC versions cause the system to hang for a few secondes (hickups). The more expensive models from samsung/mtron are SLC that dont suffer from this.

    I am primarily after performance.

The Intel ones are like $1500 over here in NZ and that is the budget I have allotted to it.

What is absolutely required is peace of mind that the drive will perform.

I will look into what Samsung offerings I can source, SSD choices are limited in my country.

I just changed my regular HDD with a 32GB Sandisk SSD, and I am very happy with it! Much much faster and better now.
