Guys this software is killing me. This laptop has been nothing but a pain with this Vista OS....

Anyway the SmartWi connection utility works just fine and detects the Wifi and bluetooth and im able to turn Off the bluetooth with the software. After i stop using it a few days and turn it back on the SmartWi doesn't work anymore and does not detect the Wifi or bluetooth and they are both turned on but i can't use the software to turn off the bluetooth.

Only way to fix the problem is to uninstall the SmartWi utility and reinstall it and it works again... I have had to do this about 5 time already in 3 weeks and its becoming a little old. I looked up a solution on Sony.com and even chatted with the clueless tech support and they have no clue and suggest the same thing over and over with bios reset and full software restore...

Any of you experiencing the same thing?
All the sony updates are up to date as well.

Do you want to use the 3G wireless card or simply access bluetooth and regular wireless functions? If the latter, you don't have to use SmartWi (though I haven't had any of the issues you describe). You can use the Wireless Switch Settings utility. Its notification icon is a green or blue square (depending on whether you are using WiFi or bluetooth) and you can choose to enable/disable wireless and bluetooth from there.

the TZ170N does not have that wireless switch setting your talking about i believe it does have a physical switch on the laptop and the SmartWi which allows you to turn it off and on but that does not work...

The FN +F1 key also does not work but all the other FN functions work just fine.. Also this model has EVDO sprint not ATT 3G

Update i just reinstalled it and noticed it puts the SmartWiHelper.exe on the startup in MSCONFIG. This time im going to leave this there and maybe it will solve the problem...

ill report back in a few days to see if this was the problem...

also after the reinstall the FN +F1 key for wireless switching works fine
