I have a very annoying problem right now with mic feedback. Once I got my mic to work by turning the input volume controls up on my Sony TZ198 using Win XP, I get mic feedback each time I place my hand on the left palmrest near the mic input.

Has anyone ever experienced this before? It's a loud, high-pitched whine from the speakers. I guess I'll have to disable the mic each time I finish Skyping until I find a solution! :(

I have exactly the same problem here... I hope someone can help. In my old laptop, the mic would only come on when an application (like Skype or Live Messenger) required it - and would stay off the rest of the time.

This wasn't a problem in Vista.

Also, do you have two front mic faders in your windows mixer? I find that odd.

Found the fix with a little more searching and a little more tinkering...

Go to your volume control in the bottom right corner of the screen (the speaker).

Mute the two front mic faders - these are for output.

Then go to options -> properties -> and change the Realtek HD Audio Output option to Realtek HD Audio Input -> select front mic and stereo mix.

The view on the output mixer will change to these two channels. Select front mic and you're done.

I just tested in Skype and it's working fine without the feedback.
