    Hello!

I am very torn between Toshiba R500, Sony G & Sony TZ

I c that TZ is the most powerful package but its downside is the 1" less.

So since I will be using the laptop for almost whole day (10 - 12hrs/day) so i was wondering if you TZ owners can stay that long without being

I will be switching from my 17" desktop, So will it work fine if its same distance ratio between me & the screen?

    Thanks in advance

I've only had it for 24 hours, so i cant answer your question.

At home i have a 19inch screen that i connect to my TZ. On the road i work on the TZ screen.

I use it at home in the evenings. The screen is so clear and sharp the size does not bother me at all.

There's one problem with the TZ's screen. It looks so good that it makes my Dell Ultrasharp 1908 looks like ****.

bytheway Smagdy, TZ screen is 11,1 inch. So thats 0,9 inch less than Toshiba. Only 7,5% smaller.

I think Toshiba is 12,1 so its 1" difference and 12,1 inch is already small screen but i think bearable.. so anything smaller might not be :)

But will see what other people will have to say!

    I know I am annoying ;-) BUT:

If the diagonal is 11.1 inch versus 12.1 inch then this is an 8.3% reduction
HOWEVER, more imortantly this is 15.9% less screen AREA since area is SQUARE of a linear distance...

Cheers from a fellow Amsterdammer, PhilFlow :)

Well i can be annoying too!

The Sony is 16:9, the Toshiba is 15:10 (?), so Pejx, do the maths again please :)

    groeten!

ps. smagdy, you've been going on about this Toshiba for a week now, maybe you should get one! :)

Poll questions should always have an XX+ final delimiter so you can catch everyone above the highest limit. ;)

In my case, I typically turn my TZ on at 7a and turn it off at 2a, so that's 19 hours of staring at a full-brightness 11-inch screen. It's not tiring, since it's an awesome display.

what i like about the screen that its bright and the pixel density is very good as its cramped more pixels into a smaller screen.

even something that's bad may actually looks good :p

Why would anyone want to spend 10+ hours a day looking at a laptop screen???? Just buy a 20" flat panel and plug it into the TZ's video out!

He asked how long people are using it for, not how long they are staring at the screen for. You can be "using" it, while having it connected to an external monitor.

Because the TZ screen looks so good!

And bytheway, I am a bit dissapointed with the VGA output signal on my TZ. My Asus A6G delivers a sharper image on my 19inch flatpanel.

    where are you based smagdy?

some more thoughts on the screensize:
I've adjusted XP to display a slightly bigger letter, and in Firefox and Opera I zoom a little bit. I'm completly satisfied. (Opera has better zoom possibilities.)

For watching movies it actually has the same screensize as a 12inch, because movies are the 16:9

In Sweden, but I can order it overseas or I've someone who can order it from USA and ship it for me! So its no problem where I am, but the problem is no shop sell it yet as I am constantly checking!

If you know any who sell the top configuration one (SSD + DVD + 2GB) then don't hesitate to inform me...

    Thanks

I suggest you look at Conics.net and Pricejapan.com.

There's a big thread with info: here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=133787

I got mine at Pricejapan. And many people are happy with Conics.

These are the import sites that I know of, with their relevant service levels:

Dynamism -- High end price. High levels of service, but more tailored towards the U.S. market.
IBOX -- High end price. I am unsure of their service, but again tailored towards the U.S.
Conics -- Mid to low end price. Good levels of service, different warranties available, and a complementary installation of an English version of Vista.
PriceJapan -- Low end price, practically no service, and is more of a mail forwarding company (i.e. all that they want to do is order on your behalf, ship it off, and never have to worry about you again).

I personally went with Conics, whereas PhilFlow went with PJ.

If you need any more advice, there are a lot of people here who can give you their input and or opinions.

    I think there is missunderstanding!

I was trying to quote this "ps. smagdy, you've been going on about this Toshiba for a week now, maybe you should get one! :)"

But it seems that i quoted something else...

So at the end I was saying guide me where to buy the Toshiba R500 not the TZ

If you're interested in the R500, then I suggest you ask the guys over in the Toshiba forum. They would be a lot more up-to-date with current options than most people here.

lol. I think it should be easy in Sweden. At least it's easy in netherlands.

    They're cheap compared to Sony.

No there is something strange about Sweden.

Sony Style Sweden doesnt have the TZ and the other stores starting to get the TZ but the 1.06 GHz version (No SSD)

and Same with the R500, it is starting to appear as coming soon but also not the SSD version!

So, I gave it up here.

Same here in netherlands. but since the R500 comes with a 5400 rpm drive i figured it would be ok.

I have a TX, not a TZ, but the screen is the same. It's so ultra sharp, that as long as you don't have any vision problems, staring at it all day isn't an issue. It's very convenient for working out on the patio, or at a coffee shop, on an airplane, or ANYWHERE for that matter!

The R500 screen sucks compared to the TZ and the DVD drive makes a lot of noise and is unreliable, so be warned.

I've just received my TZ90 and I must say it's absolutely amazing ! I love the sharpness of the screen, I was also kind of worried it could be a little too small but the sreen is perfect as it is !
