When I turned my TZ130 on this morning I could instantly tell that it had a major screen problem. Even before getting to the Vaio logo or asking me for the BIOS password, the screen was whitish and flickering. It is segmented into several rectangles, each filled with a different flickering set of vertical lines. In the upper left corner there is what looks like a black fractal or ice crystal going from the edge of the bezel about one inch into the screen. There is no crack on the screen or case and no major trauma to the TZ between last night when I turned it off and now.

If I bow the screen inwards gently, I can get an image that is about 75% normal, but the "fractal" still remains. Fortunately, it is still working with my external monitor through the docking station, although that looks like it gets a bit fuzzy at times.

So what now? I've been running Ubuntu for the three months (not dual booting). Do I need to step the system back to Vista before I get Sony involved? Any ideas of how the drill will go with returning this to Sony for repair (time involved, hassles)?

On the good side, I can still use the laptop at work with the external monitor, my data is safe, and I have a Sony TR1 I can use.

    Thanks,
    John

do u have a warranty...then u r safe.......i dont think u have to uninstall ubuntu......its ur laptop.........u have freedom to load whatever software u want......and this will not affect the warranty.....i think u have to move thru the dealer for sony repair.....did u try moving the laptop to another place .... this effect may be caused by magnetic interference (donno if they haunt lcd screens also)......
