    hi,
i am about to purchase a TZ series but I really am not sure if the extra money for SSD is worth it. is it really that much faster? i woulda jump on the deal if sony sold the 64GB here (in hong kong) but they only have the 48GB and i don't want to import it. can someone give me some opinions? how much user space is left? i suppose maybe 24GB? how much faster is it to boot up windows like from turning it on to being able to use internet explorer? i see that it only gives me an extra 0.5hr of battery life for the SSD

i was thinking of getting the 48GB SDD and buying an external hard drive but this sounds a kinda stupid.

i would get the TZ27, without ssd, then check out ebay for ssd drives and buy from there, you'll probably save money, plus you get to actually compare - if its not worth it, sell it right back and i really doubt you will lose much when buying and reselling simply because ssd cost so much these days

I never experiment this before, but what if you treat a 160GB iPod as an external hard drive? (That is if you want to buy an iPod. At least you will have something very portable to listen to, or watch videos, plus I think it is smaller than any external 160+GB hard drive available on the market)

Folks, the drives in iPods and in the TZ are 1.8" 4200rpm. So speed is an issue. Having a 32GB SSD in my G1, I can tell you it makes a huge difference, just as it would if you had a 2.5" 5400 or 7200rpm drive as your main drive (Japan option only).

If you really want the 64GB SSD, get a Japanese import.

HAving said that, I have a 32GB SSD in my G1 and a 2.5" external 200GB 7200rpm drive for a small and portable solution with more space. And it's fast.
