My AC Adapter port on my 11 month old VAIO FW came loose and it's not charging. Simultaneously I think my AC Adapter simply broke.

Sony is mailing me a new AC Adapter and is having a tech come to my house to fix the port. Anyone have experience with this? Is it like getting your cable fixed and I have to take a day off work?

No, the company Sony contracts with (Qualex?) calls you and sets up an appointment with you. Of course, they're guessing how long it takes at each location so there could be some slippage in the guesses, but the tech will call you up to confirm and you can indicate your time parameters and adjust them with the tech -- and even ask for a call as s/he gets to the neighborhood. I thought that the part was sent to the tech, however, and not to the customer....

Thanks Derrida. I received a call from Qualex today telling me they would be receiving a replacement port on Wednesday and to expect a call.

Have you had a good experience with them?

To clear up your confusion, I'm also receiving a replacement AC Adapter from Sony, since mine seems to be busted.

I have heard good things about Qualex. But I thought that Sony sends all parts to the tech and not to the customer, but maybe only parts that require a real "install"....

Oh, at the end of the visit, the tech will call Sony and speak to a Level II tech. Get the name and the case number so that if something comes up later you can get to the LII tech who can authorize another visit and who will know your case. Ask the onsite tech to ask the LII tech to email you the information.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes....
