Hi - I am new to forums but need help... :)

I have a Sony VGN BX51XP which I have just updated to Windows 7 (not an easy task after the hard drive failed) but I spent several nights trying to sort it and then my mate took about 20mins to solve!!! Happy Days.

But I have the problem of my mouse cursor roaming all over the screen as soon as you rest your arms on the keyboard area. I am happy with using a usb mouse but I was wanting to know how to switch off the touchpad to stop the cursor moving around - very very frustrating

Or any help or advice that I can solve this apart from replacing my laptop - out of warranty and I am sure sony will cost a small fortune to repair!!

    Kind regards

Possibly try the VAIO Control Center program, and uncheck the Enable box listed under Keyboard and Mouse-> Pointing Device. Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Something is wrong >> By resting your arms on the keyboard nothing should affect the mouse cursor from going crazy >>

When touching either side of the touch pad the mouse cursor moves - mainly to the right - it's as if it is a bad contact???? but I am no expert.

Press the Windows button on your keyboard, and type in "Vaio Control Center" in the Start Search field. Alternatively, click Start in the lower left corner of your screen, and do the same thing. Then, click on the VAIO Control Center listing.

You can set the sensitivity specifically for this problem so you probably do not need to shut it off.

If it's a Synaptics pad, try bringing up the MoodPad and see if it's registering your fingers in the right places.

Hi - Kind of sorted it in a bizarre way - downloaded the Alps driver for the touchpad and installed it with the intention of using it to switch it of and it has now just stopped working - happy days :) - Thanks for all the help

    Hi, MKLrg!

I don't know if you're back up yet (do a System Restore until before you installed the driver), but thought I'd point out one feature that had me going nuts on my Z's touchpad, and that's Tap to Click. I couldn't find out how to turn it off, until I finally realized that you need to Right-Click on the Synaptics Icon, and right there on the pop-up menu, select "Tap to Click" to turn off the checkmark. On both my Z, and on a new Vaio CW, this changed the systems from unusable to delightful! I can't know if this will apply to your machine or not, but it made such a difference here on my machines, I thought I'd pass this along anyway.

    Good Luck!
    Mark
