I just bought a V505EC with a Celeron M processor. I was told that I could upgrade to a Pentium M processor. I've looked all over to find out whether this is possible, and if so, what Pentium M processors will work, but I haven't been able to find any information that's been helpful. Anyone have any suggestions or advice on how to find this out? I really want to do the upgrade if it is possible! I just don't know how to determine if it's possible and what to buy.

I really need some help here! Is there another forum that anyone might recommend that has folks that could help me with my question regarding upgrading the processor?

Processor upgrades in notebooks can be a dicey situation. Some manufacturers solder the CPUs in as opposed to using a socket...hinting that the CPU isn't designed to be replaced/moved/etc. I have inquired about upgrading a few of my Vaios and have recieved the same responses...Sony doesn't intend for the processor to be changed/moved.

There is a Sony Vaio based forum called Vaio World. I'm at work so I don't have the link handy at the moment. It's frequented by Vaio laptop and desktops users and I have found it to be an excellent resource for Vaio related questions.

I know it's possible, but don't know how. You must also make sure that you are buying a Banias Pentium M, not a Dothan one. There is a guy complaining in a Taiwanese forum that his Dothan is being locked at 600 MHz, but no BIOS update or software update is available to correct this.

Big Calhoun - I looked for the site that you were referring to and found one (www.vaioworld) but it's all in German. Being that I don't speak German, it's not of much use to me. Whenever you get the opportunity, I would really appreciat it if you could let me know what the link is. Thanks!! [ :)]
