    Hello!
    I have Sony VAIO VGN-AW360J.
About two weeks ago I noticed something weird with the brightness regulation of the display. When I tried to change the brightness (always set up to the maximum) to a lower degree using the keys (Fn – F5) a high pitch noise can be heart coming from the screen (to be more exact - from the lid of the laptop, below the VAIO logo), and it is very noticeable in a quieter environment. Continuing lowering the degrees of brightness would cause higher or less noise. The nosier setting is at 90% of brightness.

While googling about this problem, I've found out that this is a common issue. But, I don't really know if this is OK or not..

Do you have the same problems?? Please, listen to your AW's! I'm really concerned about this!! As I've said above, you could possibly hear this buzzing from the lid of your laptop.

    Thanks!
    Dimitry.

P.S. Sorry I've posted it twice.

I've written to them twice and have had immediate responses that they hadn't come across such issues, this was unusual for them and so on. :(

As for me, I think the reason for these buzzing/humming/high pitched sounds is an LCD inverter or bulb or some other stuff.

The main problem is that the laptop is under warranty in the U.S., but, actually, the warranty is not international, so I could not use it.
AND! In fact, I don't even know if this issue is a technical fault.

    So weird!

This may be unusual for the AW360, but such a buzz/humming noise was reported numerous times on the AW predecessor, the AR series. I have personally witnessed one case of this high pitched noise (at lower brightness settings on the AR).

It is definitely a hardware issue. I am not aware of a simple solution to this problem that a use can attempt.

my laptop (FW490) started making this noise after I had it for a month. Seems like a lot of people have been having this issue with varying degrees of noise level (some ppl dont mind it). I mind this noise a lot, and it gives me a headache. I cant concentrate on anything else cause its so loud. I am going to call sony after finals and complain about it until they either fix it, give me a new one, or give me a refund. This is definitely not unique to just yours, it is a product fault, and for such an expensive laptop it should not be this bad.

BTW, I think mine started after I used the built in camera for the first time.
