Sony is holding a conference in NYC next Tuesday to make an announcement regarding the VAIO line of PCs/Notebooks. Not totally sure what it's all about, but they're making quite a big deal of it and coaxing as many people into coming as possible...including me for some reason ? [ :p] Anyway, I'll report back on the site next Tuesday evening on what Sony has to say to the world.

Perhaps the VAIO line will be replaced by Qualia[)] Too much wishful thinking.

I don't know if this IS the annoucement or related. Looking around on the net, I came across some info about A and S series VAIOs being released for the summer. I also ran across the following pic of what I think will be an A series VAIO with 17 inch screen...http://www.itmc.sony-europe.com/pdb/A100Series17inch_face_open_A5.jpg

    Can't find any specs yet...

This is awesome! I'm sure its going to be great if they are making a big deal about it. And that means I'm probably going to have to buy a new notebook! [ :p] I was wondering when they were going to refresh their series.

Heh... I wouldn't be able to wait!!! I'd go get the GRT! Then, later I'd have an excuse to get a new one, if my pocketbook allowed... So, go get it, and enjoy it while waiting to getthe new one!! [ :)]

I'd wait to hear what the specs would be, assuming this is going to be part of the announcement. It may be worth the wait. The ones that have to suffer are those of us that just purchased new laptops. There's no way I could get another one by my wife, I'm running out of stash spots [ :p]

    EDIT: Keeping the rumor-mill going...

Came across this article this morning: http://www.boston.com/business/technology/articles/2004/04/01/sony_to_expand_vaio_line_beyond_computers?mode=PF

This may also be related. There are a couple of interesting revelations:

    1. The VAIO subdivision, VAIO of America, is looking to expand it's retail presence. Move over MAC stores?

    2. VAIO of America is looking to expand it's product line beyond computers. The article hints at mobile devices (WCDMA enabled Clie maybe?) and other devices (VAIO branded toaster ovens??)

Hmmmm, this coupled with the pictures of a new wide-screen laptop could make for an interesting announcement....

I think im going to go get it in a few hours and not wait because I really dont want a widescreen laptop plus I like the giga pocket feature and the new ones will probably be really expensive and I can bearly afford this one.

It's supposed to be today, the 11th in NYC. I imagine Abaxter is rubbing elbows with the big-wigs right now over some Saki and fresh Sushi.....or a coke and NYC hotdog[ :p]
