I was at the recent digitallife show in NYC and Sony had their VAIO C on display there (announcement about that here: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3207&article=Sony+VAIO+C), following are a few pictures I took:

Any idea when this will be in stores? Looks more durable than the sz
-
More durable? It's made completely out of plastic and weighs > 5 lbs.

Most people buy SZ's becuase they weigh 3.7 lbs.
A 5-1/2 lb SZ at a premium price would be a superfluous thing... -
I like the looks of the sz but ive heard alot of problems about the quality of them, some owners said the casing falls apart and cracks very easily. Who wants to pay 2k for a portable when its too fragile to take it anywhere-
-
Those C's look c-u-t-e. -
Is it just me or are the the XBrite-ECO screens really dim?
-
In handling it the build wasn't bad at all really, but didn't feel as solid as the VAIO SZ. -

Where have you heard "a lot of people" say that their SZ cases are falling apart? Not here because only two or three people have posted with that particular issue. The majority of people on that thread posted that they just wished the SZ had more 'jewel-like' construction for the price but that they really didn't have any problems.
OK, but then there is only so much one can do for $2,500 in a less-than 4 pound package.
So what; you're not going to buy a product because three people on a web forum have an issue? OK...
Anything made by man will inherently have flaws, problems, etc. and common sense dictates that more people will come to web forums to complain than to celebrate. That is to say that while 99% of SZ owners may be perfectly happy, a larger number of the unhappy 1% will post complaints.
Then of course there are are real problems across the line, such as the space bar issue, but in that instance you had dozens if not hundreds of people confirming that issue, not just an unlucky two or three.
The SZ is by no means perfect and it does have it's issues to be sure [PITA software/driver reinstall, less-than-perfect keyboard/trackpad, etc.]. But my SZ Premium has now been with me on over 30 flights, to more than a dozen countries on three different continents and it is holding up quite well, no cracks, no breaks, no major problems and I would be willing to bet that my experience is closer to normal that are those few with cracking case problems.
I am no Sony fanboy. In fact, this was my first Sony laptop and as I have said before I bought it almost in spite of the fact that it was a Sony [high price, lousy customer support]. I bought it because in terms of size, weight, durability, and features there was [and still is] nothing else on the market that is better [though some day their likely will be].
If you are constantly banging your laptop around then forget the SZ or even the C, you need a Panasonic ToughBook.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
thanks for taking the flicks abaxter... looks like a funky notebook, though i'll stick with the SZ.

Lots of travelling with my SZ. No problems as a result of travelling. I have had several computers in the past. Dell, HP, Compaq, e-machine, Gateway and two other Vaios. I really THINK that buyers of the SZ are buying it for the 3.7 pounds and the performance. Yes it is expensive. Yes there is a lot of bloatware. Try traveling with a Dell or an HP and you will be a convert to the Vaio after a few round trips. If there are other laptops with the performance, the screen, and the weight, I have not found them yet. I almost got talked into a Fujitsu but I really enjoy my Vaio. Oh and nearly every other flight somebody will ask me about it when they see the screen quality. To me the difference between 3.7 lbs and 5.? is a big concern and worth the SZ premium. Aren't laptops supposed to be convenient?

seriously, how do you treat your laptop? i donno about you but i treat my laptop like my second gf.
u make it sound like u buy a laptop to throw it around. -
Was there a white one ?
-
Anyhow, back ontopic: The black C is very nice looking, and the pink one might work for girls. The green doesnt work so well, imo. The white would be pretty sweet, were it not a total MB rip. Seriously, looking at design and specs and weight, they seem sooo close. -
i always have a compress air can ready beside my desk to ensure a dust free environment
i still think C is for high school kids, something their parents buy for them so it doesn't hurt as much when its crack or broken.
