I'm looking to buy a laptop for my girlfriend for her mobile gaming needs, and she happens to like the stylings of the new Sony VAIO C series a lot (probably CB for a 15" screen). I was wondering how they hold up for moderate-heavy gaming, as that would be a big reason she'd use it.

First, yes, I know they aren't really gaming laptops, but they have a few nice features:
    1) nice screen (from what I've seen and read)
    2) good battery life (not in performance mode or whatever sony calls it, of course)
    3) free adobe software
    4) very pretty (she likes the white one a lot).
    5) the graphics card isn't awful (I know its not top of the line but it looks like it should handle things in medium-high detail depending on screen resolution)

I know that the F series is probably better for this, but they are incredibly ugly and, yes, that matters here.

I have an alienware and she's not a big fan of the styling. The new macbook pros are actually pretty nice (and she likes the style) but the price is an issue. The Envy seems nice but they no longer have the radiance display and the screen quality is very important to her. I looked through some of Dell's stuff but they're a bit ugly.

    ---

My big concern is cooling on the C series, I don't know how it handles that ... thanks in advance!

    Thanks. :)

I had already taken a look at that, just to know if I should even be considering it, but of course processor, resolution, and cooling all come into play here as well.

Right now she's playing Rift and Civ 5, and in the future likely guild wars 2. Lots of less demanding games as well (minecraft, for example).

The cooling on the C series is probably better than any other laptop in its price range. No heating issues whatsoever. :)

The cards on the C and F series are pretty comparable, right? If that's the case, you should be fine gaming on the 6630. I had played Rift on 1080 and it performs pretty well.

And the Fs aren't ugly. ;) Opinions, of course; I think the C and F are Sony's nicest-looking this year.

    Thanks. :)

Her and I think the F's are a bit ... meh. That raised bit is sort of weird.

What resolution/settings were you Rifting at, and what FPS do you get normally (in sanctum or meridian or in raids or wahtnot)? Thats a fair judge for what I need to know, I guess.

Thanks for letting me know about cooling. :)

    I can super confirm this(!!),
got the VAIO C (15") recently; (White - it's beautiful)
and after playing L4D2 (at 1920x1080, 2xAA, 4xAF, everything else high) for over 2 hours, the base near the vent side, is just so cool !!
    (runs L4D2 perfectly well)

(the only thing this laptop I needed to change was going into Sound - Speaker properties to tick the Dolby - 'Audio Enhancer' on
this increases the base for better sound
also with 1080 screen, changed text to 125%, 120dpi, super sharp text with agreeable text size ^__^*)

if it's primarily usage moving around the house, then this 15" @ 2.85kg is excellent
