    Hi Guys,

I bought a Sony VAIO notebook from Japan (VGN CS52JB). With the help of this site I managed to convert it into Vista Home Premium English version which was originally Japanese.
Everything works perfect except the AV mode button and the capture button. (which worked fine originally)
I installed "VAIO Event Service" and "VAIO Launcher", which I thought need to have that functionality.
Do I need to install any other VAIO applications to get it working? Any help is deeply appreciated

    Thanks

    Hi users89898,
Thanks a lot for the reply...
I have already installed "Sony Shared Library". I can hear it launching and when I blindly click the area where the bar appears, the applications fire up.
But the problem is that I can not actually see the bar...

Have you installed Sony Notebook Control & Utilities? - order is important - need the Sony Shared Library, then the notebook utilities. These two applications will normally make your function buttons operate.

The thing is that I'm installing setups from the recovery disks. So I don't have one setup file called Sony Notebook Control & Utilities. First I installed Sony Shared Library, then Setting Utility Series, VAIO Event Service and VAIO Launcher...
I can't figure out why the bar is not visible, even though it's launching. Does it need any other plugins?

You cannot download the VAIO Launcher from the Sony Website.

Also, the extracted VAIO Launcher in the Sony Notebook Utilities doesn't work, it says:

    " Error Number: 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find DLL function: SnyUtils.SuOpen

    Setup will now terminate. "

I already did that as I've said in my previous post. When installing, I receive the error I've posted. What do you mean Sony's Driver are model specific? So where will I be getting that VAIO Launcher?

    I encounter the same problem when I change my O/S from Vista Home Premium to Windows7. The function keys, AV mode button and volume control panel do not work. What I did is as follows;

    1. Re-install Windows 7 ( Note: Ensure the recovery partition in the laptop where the original Vista O/S and Sony drivers/applications is still intact)

    2. Since I do not have the device drivers and Sony application softwares I need to make Windows 7 works perfectly... I have 2 options;

    Option 1# :
Download the softwares and drivers in Sony website.
Im from the Philippines, so Sony directed me to Sony-Asia.com where I
can download the drivers for my VGN-CS16GQ laptop.
http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/product/vgn-cs16g/modelfirst. Anyway, you can download the softwares/drivers depending on your location where your laptop model is available. You just need to type-in the model number and Sony website will direct you.
Note: Drivers available are intended for Vista but most of them works in compatibility mode for Windows 7.

    Option 2:
Extract the drivers/softwares in the recovery partition in your laptop.
    Here's how you do it.

    1. You need to download first the MOD2WIM.zip from this link.
    http://rapidshare.com/files/147096173/mod2wim.zip.

    2. Extract mod2wip.zip to your c:\ i place mine in the root in a mod2wim folder (C:\mod2wim ).

    3. Run Mod2Wim.bat This pops up a console window with some options.

    4. Select option "S". This lets you point to where you have stored the recovery data or recovery partition.

    5. Select option 2 ( Copy&Process MOD/SYN Files ) - This will run for a while and will eventually put the .WIM files in the Wim folder ( c:\mod2wim\wim )

    6. Select option 5 ( [Un]Mount Patched Files ) - This will go through the wim folder and extract the wims. A folder will be created for each wim and you will be able to see the MSI or setup.exe files.

    7. Go to the directory (c:\mod2wim\wim) where all the WIM files are saved.
All the WIM files in the WIM directory are the softwares and drivers for your laptop.

    8. To extract each wim file. Download the 7zip ( http://www.7-zip.org/).

    9. Once extracted, you can start installing the drivers you need.

DO note that installing the drivers follow a sequence. Otherwise, the function keys, AV mode button and Vol control will not work.

    Follow this sequence.

    1. Install first Sony Shared Library [installer] (dont forget to reboot the laptop when instructed)
    2. Sony Setting Utility - needed to get FN Keys and Vaio Control Center working.
    3. Sony VAIO Control Center (VCC), program to set up your VAIO. It allows you to configure the shortcut button, to launch programs.
    4. VAIO Event Service (VES2)- needed to get Fn Keys functionality, Wireless Switcher Utility(XP install, applies to other models) and VAIO Power Management.
    5. VL. VAIO Launcher
    6. VPM. VAIO Power Management., manufacture profile and utility to manage the power options for your laptop.
    7. Chipset Intel Driver
    8. ICH9-E/M SATA AHCI do the [manual] method, this device is on the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section in the device manager.
    9. Video: ATI Driver [installer] or Nvidia
    10. Realtek Audio Driver
    Realtek Sound Card Driver
    Realtek HDMI Sound Driver
    11. Ethernet [manual])
    12. Intel Wireless.
    13. Modem [manual]
    14 Bluetooth
    15. Touch pad [manual]
    16. Memory Stick Driver. Is the “Base System Device” in the Unknown Device section, do [manual] install.
    17. Memory SD Driver [manual]

Now, at this point you have:

    * Multimedia Audio controls (Vol +/-, Mute, etc) working OK through Windows Native device handler, (no process needed)
    * Brightness Control working OK, using the brightness control slide in Power Options.
    * AV mode button working.

Hey Migs, I'm from the Philippines too. Unfortunately I already erased that partition because it takes too much space off the hard drive. But no worries, since I have all the drivers needed for the laptop to work, I downloaded them from the Sony website but the thing is that I already installed them in the correct order, still I don't get to make the brightness FN keys to work (volume keys and other FN keys work fine).

Also, I receive an error when installing Vaio Launcher (got my VL1 by exracting it from the Sony Notebook Utilities download). Can you upload the Vaio Launcher that you got your laptop for me? Thanks.

For your brightness problem, did you try reinstalling the VAIO Event Service (VES2)- This controls the FN keys. Try also installing the VAIO Power Management.

I did try to reinstall the VAIO event service but still no success.

I thought VAIO power management isn't needed?

I think brightness control is related to power management. Try to install it.

    Ok I'll be trying that.

By the way, do you also have the arcosft web companion and arcosft magic i-visual effects software?

The downloads from Arcsoft are only trials.

Also, I was able to make the AV button mode. Now my only problems are the brightness (Fn + F5 and F6), the volume slider in the right side of the AV Mode button and the Media buttons on the left side of the AV Mode button. They're not all working!

    What's wrong? Please help.

Ah ok. I need them :( Can't you use rapidshare? I've tried power management, doesn't make a difference.

By the way, I already fixed the brightness problem. I just installed the NVIDIA driver that is specifically for VISTA 64-bit, do not use the one for Windows 7.

Power management is not related in anyway to the brightness problem.

The AV mode button is working when I installed VAIO launcher but not the mutlimedia touch sensitive buttons and volume slider touch sensitive.

What I managed to find out, is that main driver for volume and media player buttons goies with Touch Pad driver, named pointing driver Synaptics. Sequence is not important that much.
