Is the Sony VAIO F series available with a solid state drive? Is there any way to order one with a solid state drive? Will it ever be available with one?
I'm really considering buying this laptop, but without a solid state drive, it's making me consider something else an alternative.

You could always just buy a F series and then buy an aftermarket drive to replace the HDD... for one, it'll probably be cheaper to do that than get an "official" one from Sony.

1. Configure an F series with the cheapest hard drive available.
2. Buy a solid state drive aftermarket (I went with an OCZ vertex 2 120gb).
3. Buy a 2.5" Delock eSATAp enclosure.
4. When your F series arrives, swap out the hdd with the ssd. Put the hdd into the enclosure and you now have a bulk storage/backup drive which allows you to unload alot of unnecessary writes to the ssd.
The nice thing about this is that you get a 3 to 5 year warranty on the ssd and it'll be faster and cheaper than any drive Sony will sell you as an upgrade. You can always swap the hdd back into the laptop should you have to avail of Sony's back to base warranty.
