I recently bought a used sony vaio FS980. For some reason, The keyboard and mouse have no functionality during BIOS. If I insert a liveCD or startup cd, none of the keyboard functions will work. As a result, I can't enter BIOS setup. After the OS boots though, both the keyboard and mouse work fine.
I was able to install Linux on it (since the Live CD will boot regardless), but now I wanted to give it away and need to reinstall windows. I bought a recovery cd online, and triy to boot from that, but for some inexplicable reason, the cd will start to lod VAIO recovery until the progress bar reaches 100%, and then the entire CPU shuts off. I do not think it is the CD since it seems to load (until hardware mismatch) in other non-vaio pcs.
Anyone have any idea what might be going on.

I would go for a BIOS problem.
See if you can get a BIOS update from Sony via a secondary computer and instal it.
(Make sure you know what you're doing though) -
So I found a BIOS update online, does anyone have any advice on how I could run it if I do not have windows installed? I could not find any live CD's that would boot windows safe mode.
