    Good day.

I really hope you guys can help me out.
I have a new vaio G1 carbon, witch let me tell you is the BEST laptop ever had... Awsome machine.
Sadly it was only offer in japan, so I gt it with the Japanese OS, witch I latter on change to Vista Ultimate English.
I got all the drivers, and utilities working, but the sonync.dll driver, or file, whatever is called, ... The thing is that is what RUNS/DRIVES the battery power on mi machine, I read from a reply that has something to do with the power management sytem.
Anyway, my machine is suppose to have a 6h battery life! can you believe it!, but now, it only gives me 3 hours tops!!!.
I found this sonync.dll witch is108kb on the drivers SFEP folder that I downloaded from VAIO JAPAN, but it doesnt have any .EXE so I can NOT load this .dll file into my sistem!!!!!
I tryed to copied MANUALLY, since I think!? I know where it goes :
c:windows/system32/driverstore/sonysys.inf (this is the folder) ... but everytime I try to copied, it gives me a permission error!!! Dont know why since Im the administrator and only usser.

I think I know where the problem is on my system.. In mi machine, at the device manager, under human devices, there are 2 hardwares : I/O progrmable power, and a Sony firmware Extension Parcel Device. (this 2 also appear on the Tx790P and the Tx850 that I own.) An in bought cases, they have 2 drivers loaded!, one that finishes in .sys and the other one .dll. for example at the I/O power I have a driver Sonypi.sys and sonypi.dll, but in the Sony firmware extension I only have ONE driver in this machine, the sonync.sys ….. I do have the driver sonync.dll witch weights 108kb on a driver file that I downloaded from sony, but since is a .dll file, I don’t know how to uploaded?. In my other 2 machines they are the 2 drivers on the Sony Firmware Estension, bought the .dll and the .sys. …… So I think this is the problem.

Anyway ... I tried EVRYTHING tha occured to me ... so I will REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP/COMMENTS/INSTRUCTIONS.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hope Corporation. :)

Have you tried any of European VAIO Support sites? I know they introduced VAIO G1 there, so check out the site, they have links to all Drivers and Utilities originally shipped in G. www.vaio-link.com Good luck!

As far as I know the G1 and G11 are basically the same. However, I believe the G1 has a smaller battery since it has a lighter weight than the G11. Gizmondo refers to a bigger battery. My G11 has what I believe is the high capacity and it can be stretched out to over 9 hours. A lighter, half capacity battery would run out after 4 1/2 hours.

The best way to check whether the system is running efficiently is to look at the power drain. I use the battery info page of RMClock. At the moment it says that my G11 has 53890mWh remaining in the battery, has a discharge rate of 6130W and a time remaining of 8hrs 49min. This is with wireless and bluetooth switched off and the display on 3/8 brightness. On minimum brightness the power drain is about 5900mW. The designed capacity of my G11's battery is 62640mWh.

I think the device drivers are not the cause of the problem. The drivers I have for the HID devices are the same. More relevent are the sony power management utilities. There is a Vaio Control Center and a Vaio Power management Viewer. The latest versions of the individual software packages are listed here while the complete drivers and utilities packages are here.

I would suggest you try to install both of these packages then apply the other updates.

By the way, one undocumented feature is that a 2GB RAM module will work, to give you 2GB RAM. This helps Vista run more smoothly.

Thank you for your response. I have triedand did download the drivers at the Sony Pacific Page, I think this G11 are a little different that my G1, mine is only 1200mhz, core solo, the other ones I think they are 1300, and that is why im getting LITTLE issues. Thanks.

I do have the drivrs from the japanesse page, but don know what they mean ?

    Hello .
Thank you so much for your reply.
I downloaded the clock, and this is what came up: (Im sending it because I don’t have ANY idea what it means… I love computers, but Im not to tech)

    Remaining Capacity : 24930mwh (79.4%)
    Discharge rate : 10499mw
    Life time remaining 2h, 22min
    Designed capacity 31320mwh
    Full charge capacity 31320mwh
    Manufacturer sony corp
    Unique id: sony corp.

    What you think ?

Also, I forgot to ask you, your G11, is the VN, XN, ? only wondering because I think, almost sure, that yours is more powerful than mine. Mine is : Core Solo CPU U1400 @ 1.20Ghz. 2038RAM (I did upgraded, it used to run very slow. Thanks). 32 Bit windows vista premium.

Im only asking because, if you say that you think that the driver is not my problem, and if you think the battery reading from my machine are ok, than maybe?? Since I downloaded the drivers from the Europe Page, based on the Vaio G11, I thought they where the same, but if yours is more powerfull…..
Will that be the reason why the Sony Library and SPI and SFEP drivers are not 100% compatible? And along with the power control manager software, that also came from there, are treating mi computer in a more “powerfull settings” and that is why is discharging more battery juice? Or it wont matter, and the drivers will be the same no matter of the model ?

Thanks a lot, I will appreciate your response.

    Good evening.

    Hope Corporation.

My G11 is XN/B with U1500, so it will be slightly faster than the U1400 but this is not significant. Most of the time the CPU should be cruising along at its minimum speed ( MHz).

Your power consumption at over 10W (10000mW) is too high so the challenge is to figure out where the power is going. Look at the monitoring page of RMClock. The CPU core clock / throttle should say 800 (or something close - mine is 798) with occasional spikes of something faster.

So check out the CPU speed, CPU voltage range and CPU utilisation (add columns to Task Manager for CPU and CPU time - this lets you see which processes are using the CPU and System idle should be the main activity).

Report back on what you see.

    Good Morning.

Thank you so much gor your reply. YES, Mine says also the same CPU CORE CLOCK 798. But this other are different :

    CPU Core Clock 798n (same)
CPU Load and OS load 78% - 5-6%
    CPU Frequency 6.0 - .938 (same)
    CPU Core Tem : 51 C (degrees)

At the CPU INFO and Status, this are the only changes I see :

    TM1 : IDA
    TM2: DFFS
CPU Load 79% ! (I think this is the wrong one!)
    OS Load : 9.23%
    Core temp: 52 C

    The rest is the same.

    Windows Task manager
Image Name User Name CPU CPU time Working Set memory
    System Idle system 76 0.09.45 28k
    Avgw.exe g1 13 0.02.23 57,236K
    Taskmgr g1 08 0.00.54 9,920k
    Svchost local 00 11,600K
    Dwm g1 00 51,772k
    Svchos system 09 76,808k

This is the info. I will REALLY appreciate it if you can help me translate it, and maybe tell me what to do to short power compsumption.

Thank you so much for your help, and I hope to hear from you soon.

    Best regards.

    Hope Corporation.

PS/ Did you see the page from Sony Japan that I found that is for my EXACT model ? You think that this drivers are the same from the VAIO G11 that I downloaded from Europe ? Further more,… what you think will happened if I load Japanese drivers into mi English OS System ?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the additional information. This confirms that no application or process is keeping the CPU busy. Therefore the likely cause of the high power consumption is the software failing to reduce power to components when running on battery.

Was you power consumption measured with the display on low brightness and wireless / Bluetooth turned off.

Have you got the Vaio Control Center and a Vaio Power Management Viewer installed? If not, I strongly recommend that you install these from the Sony UK site (links given previously). For example, my G11 has the option to turn off power to the optical drive when running on battery. The hardware, with the possible exception of the BIOS, is not sensitive to language and it will be easier for you to use English language software and drivers.

Thank you again for your response and advise….

I did a custom power set, and this is what I got it to rate:

    CPU Core Clock 798n (same)
CPU Load and OS load 68% - 3%
    CPU Frequency 6.0 - 0.938 (same)
    CPU Core Tem : 51 C (degrees)
At the CPU INFO and Status, this are the only changes I see :
    TM1 : IDA
    TM2: DFFS
    CPU Load 60-70%
    OS Load : 5%
    Core temp: 52 C

    Battery
    Discharge rate 7600-8700mw
Lifetime: 2H51 minutes.! Still VERY LOW!
    Brightness : 3 out of 8 bars
    No Wifi, no Bluetooth
    The rest is the same.
Do you think this is OK ?

Still has a low battery life!, according to these readings do you think this is normal? Or maybe the Battery just sucks?

So you think that the drivers from the G11 UK are the same as the ones for my G1 Jap?
If they are different, you think that will maybe the reason why I have a low power battery life? O you see these rates normal/correct

    Thank you so much.

    Best regards.

    Hope Corporation.

PS/ (I downloaded the Update for the Power manager Software a few days ago, but In this new one is integrated to the power mnager from the Vista OS Right? I thought the older one was better!, it gave me more chances to do more stuff, like turning of pc card, ilink, etc … and change to 16 bit screen …. Right? Or this updated version is better ? Thanks.

The power discharge rate (7600-8700mW) is still too high. Are you running the latest BIOS?

I don't think the CPU is the problem but there is one last check to make sure the CPU is going into a low power state: Go to the start menu and type "Perfmon" into the command box. Then click on performance Monitor in the list on the left side of the window. Then right-click on the graph window and select Add Counters. Then click on the + against Processor, select %C3 Time then press the Add button, then OK. You should now have two red lines in the graph window. Go down to the list at the bottom and double-click on the %C3 Time and change the colour (I make it a thicker green line). You should get a graph similar to the attached.

If you are not getting %C3 Time in the 80% to 90% range when the CPU is idle then this may be the problem. (C3 is a low power CPU state).

I believe that the UK G11 drivers and software will work fine with your G1. The core hardware is the same. It is what I would be trying to do. If they don't work you go back to the other versions.

    Good evening.
I did what you advise, and here are the results :
    Performance Monitor
    (power on batter-VAIO Maximun Battery)

    Average %C3: 86.91
    minumin: 41.55
    maximun: 94.095
    duration: 1.40

    Average % Processor Time: 5.00
    Minimun: 0.00
    maximun : 21.84
    Duration 1:40

    (power with AC)

    Average %C3: 86.91
    minumin: 6.40
    maximun: 94.095
    duration: 1.40

    Average % Processor Time: 16.00
    Minimun: 3.12
    maximun : 48.43
    Duration 1:40

I don’t understand really too much about it, but seems like the CPU in did is not going to low power state. In this case what can I do?

Are you running windows Visa on your machine? Just wondering because Im getting a little tired of dealing with this windows vista. …. You think that If I change to Windows Xp will I still have this issues ?

According to your knowledge, and pro-advise…. Do you think the XP is a better OS? Is it word it to change it?

Thank you so much for all your help and advise. Look forward to your response.

    Best Regards.

That CPU ulitisation looks fine ~ 85% in C3 mode.

Yes, I'm running Vista. I find it OK once the various bells and whistles are disabled. One Vista tweak which is standard for me, so I forget to mention it, is to set the display properties to best performance + smooth display fonts (this also applies to XP). Another is turn off indexing and the Sidebar got banished long ago. If the display is on best appearance and you've got those other features running then they will drain power.

    Good morning.

Thanks for your message. I dont know what is whrong with the power then? Any ideas?

In any case, my pacience with Windows Vista has run OUT, plus theyre is a LOT of good software that is non compatible, so I think I better go with the Xp Pro SP2.

Now, my problem is that I can not download the drivers and utilities for the downgrade to XP!.... Because my machine is Japanese and the Serial number doesnt go trough the register page at Sony Support UK/Support downloads.

I did when to the ASi page, the drivers are there for the VAIO G118XXX but I tried those drivers and they are for some reason NON-compatible with my machine!. .... The only one that seem to work are the ones for the VAIO G11NV/VN..(the first models at the sony uk download drivers page)

So I wanted to as if someone PLEASE can send me the "inside" link after the register page, so that I can download the pack? , or even better if someone that has done the downgrade can help me with the drivers and utilities that you have downloaded? You can send the to me to my email address witch is :

[email protected] (it has enought space)

I will REALLY appreciate it, I know it will take a few minutes of someones time, but it will help me YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH.

So I wanto to thank in advance to all the users that will reply any support to me, and also to the members that have help me so far.

I've got a couple of files. One is called G1-G2_XP_Drivers.zip and it is 84MB. The other is G1-G2_XP_Applications.zip and it is 133MB. This is what is on the Sony UK download site so they appear to be applicable to all the G series. However, even if you mail box has that amount of space, I would have to chop them into many small bits to send.

My G11 has a product code of 28202250 if that's any help.

    Hello John.

Thank you for the info. YES, those will be the files I need for the downgrade. At the ASIA Site the downgrade is 189MB, and 84MB Drivers, and I have try their drivers, and they are not comatible? weer!

I any case, my machine starts with 28202211 ... So yes, I can see they have different serials, but this model is the closest thing I have found drivers that I have found.....

If you find a way, or give me instructions on how to download from that FTP link, I will really appreciate it.

    Thank you ...

    Hope Corporation.

PS/ Did you have any idea why my computer has such a HIGH dischrge rate? I was just testing it right now, and with NON brightness, and just explorer and internet PCMCIA, I still get up to 12000mw!!!???

    Thanks.

You should be able to download the files by just clicking on them in Firefox or Internet Explorer and then selecting Save.

I'm still puzzled where all your power is going. I struggle to get my G11 up to 10W power drain under normal use - I can get it to 11W with the CPU under full load and the display on maximum brightness). Can you confirm your CPU model? (Use CPU-Z). Do you have anything connected to the USB ports?

    Good Evening.

Sorry for the late reply... but a lot happened after I installed Windows XP...

I finally downloaded the drivers from the UK site for the dowgrade to Windows XP.
After installing the windows XP, and the drivers, the computer did perform better
and the power issue was fixed.. havind almost 5 hours of battery life now!.

Unfortunally the Windows XP CRASHED after 2 days of being intalled... it gave me a
problem with a hall.dll file, part of the windows boot system, witch I was unable to
fixed, so i decided to reintalled AGAIN the entire thing.

This time I loaded the Windows XP 64 bit Media Center, so that it will be more stable.
Uploaded all the drivers, and all the devices seem to work besides this 3:

    - Wireless Land. (The IPro Installer from Intel did not load!. It gives me a OS
compatibility issue, witch I was sure it was becasue I installed a different version
so I did went to the Intel site, and downloaded the drivers and software for the
Intel Wireless Land 3945ABG Network Connection ... But IT DID NOT INSTALLED! ... So
basically the wireless land is not working!..)
Do you or anyone know if this is the right model wireless land card that comes with this
machine? or maybe Im installing a wrong model, and that is the reason why isnt installing?
    I will really appreciate help/ideas/comments.

    - The Ethernet Controler is also NON installed!. the driver that came in the downgrade
    package, the yk51x86 doesnt installed ? ..

    - there is a USB Device that also show as not installed, and since I dont have any
idea what it is, I havent been able to installed it.

So if you guys can help me out fixing this devices, I will really appreciate it.

Besides this issues, Im very happy with the Windows XP 64 Bit Media Edition. Is VERY FAST!
my power comsumption is what is suppose to be, with a battery life of almost 5 hours
and overall the OS is working very, very good.

Thank you for all the advices and help that I have been given, and I will really appreciate
it if you can help me out a bit more resolving this last issues.

Thank you, and have a good evening.

    Hope Corporation. :)

Thanks for the update. I'm a little surprised that you are running 64-bit Windows. Is your CPU the U1500 or the U7500/ U7600?

The wireless should be the Intel 3945. Did you try the XP 64-bit drivers.

For the wireless you need yk51x64 driver.

As for that USB device, perhaps it is the optical drive.
