    Hi,
I have a Sony VAIO (model number: VGN-NW265F/B) and the LCD screen just has lines going everywhere and you can barely read the text on the screen. After some research, it appears it's the LCD and not the actual notebook. I was going to just buy a new laptop, but cash is tight right now.

I bought this in 2009, so I am out on the warranty. I would like to just replace the LCD myself, as I do have some technical skills.

My question is - can anyone tell me the best place to buy LCD replacement screens? Also, would now be a good time to consider upgrading the screen? (if this is even possible). Also, I am pretty sure what the answer is, but can the screen be replaced with an LED backlit screen?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are several websites selling screens, but I've always found broken machines on a large, public auction style website to be cheaper - make sure you check that the screen is working! Just have a shop around and see what comes up.

I do not think a backlit screen can replace a normal one, and I certainly have not had a go at it. Just a comment on your LCD, what are the lines like? Horizontal/vertical, which may mean the inverter, or crazy all over the place spiderwebbing, which would mean the panel itself is cracked. Replacing an inverter is much, much cheaper than the LCD panel!

Thank you for the reply. I used the HDMI cable to connect to my desktop monitor and everything appeared fine. The screen has about 1/3rd of it that is completely white and the rest of the screen has lines going all over the place. This happened after my daughter knocked it off of the table. :(

I am fairly certain it's the panel. I could use suggestions on a reputable place to buy the panel from? There are quite a few vendors selling panels.

    Thanks!

sparepartswarehouse is good. I'm not sure of any other place other than Sony itself (which prob wont have any more parts). I don't have much experience with buying replacement parts, but sparepartswarehouse.com usually sources their parts from the manufacturer.
