This is not my Laptop and this is a buddy of mine that I have been trying to help out in rebuilding.
Here are the specs:
# Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Celeron
# Number of Processors: 1
# RAM: 512 MB
# Hard Drive: 40 GB
# CD-RW: included
# DVD-ROM: 8.3x
# Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition
He has been having issues with it being slow and thought he will just up the RAM to 1 GB. Then he wanted help and swapping out the HDD, and to pull off his old data off the old HDD. The new HDD is a 120 GB 5700rpm. Thought not a problem and that is easy to do.
I went ahead and put a new OS Win XP Home Edition, install was successful. I added a driver for my wireless card and was able to see my router. So then I went ahead and tried to connect to the internet to download the Drivers for the Laptop. And that was SLOW as HELL trying to upload the sony page. So then I tried to download and Antivirus and again it was crawling to that website. I finally get to the software and then it starts to download then the connection drops off. Then it will maybe start backup.
Thought it was bad HDD so I thought I would put the old one back on and was still the same issue. Thought it was the RAM and put the old ones back on, but still the same issue.
What else do I need to look at? Is there something special about sony?
What the Hell?
