Hello all! This is my first post on these forums and I have attempted to search and browse to find a similar topic relating to this problem but have yet to find anything.

My problem is this: On my AR730E, some Blu-Rays play fantastic! I would easily say that when connected to a TV, the Blu Ray players that Sony puts in their VAIOs (or at least the one in mine) is top notch. It takes a reasonable amount of time to load the disc, and the quality is fantastic.

The only problem is that with some Blu Rays, my VAIO just can't seem to handle them sufficiently. My latest example is the new Batman Movie (Black Knight). Quality is good, but during high-action scenes, the playback is very choppy. It looks as if the frame-rate is very slow. I don't have lip-sync problems or anything like that, just choppy playback and sometimes it'll lag for close to a full second.

I've performed all of the upgrades to the drivers and firmware that Sony provides.

My model of VAIO actually has a GEForce 8400M GT. Even though Nvidia (and several other sources) claim that the 8400 should be able to readily handle blu-ray movies, I'm still skeptical myself. Does anyone have any ideas of things I could try? I can't imagine upgrading to the 8500 or the 8600 would be possible on a laptop, would it?

*Edit* Sorry for not including this, but my laptop is brand new as of about 2 months ago. While playing the Batman blu-ray, the CPU usage is only at about 60%. I don't do anything with this laptop but use it for homework and watching movies.

Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers for your video card? also, is the CPU set for best performance (under power management). With the NVideo control panel maybe you can tune your video card for performance.

If you are using the bundled Blu Ray player, then it might be crappy. Try other blu ray software like powerdvd ultimate 8 etc and see if that makes a difference.
