I believe its the same as VGN-C140G/B but more ram and little more HDD.
Everything else is same. You might be better off buying the older model and upgrading for free to Vista if you want Vista. -
Buying C140 is not going to save any $ ..right? As C140 is coming for approx. $1300 -
Hi,
The C140G is cheaper than what you say. You can grab one for $1000 at CircuitCity right now. I bought mine (with Windows XP) at the bargain price of $800 at BestBuy just before they switch to Windows Vista.
The C140G is equipped with 2*512 MB so if you want to upgrade to 2GB (for Vista) you will have to change both sticks. You say than the C240 has 3 USB ports. That's a good thing because the C140G has only 2 that are very close together. It is impossible to connect a wide USB key and a printer cable at the same time for example (if two cables then it is ok).
The hard drive on the C140 is 120 Gb.
I had some noise problems on mine (you can read some comments on that in this forum) so verify as soon as you buy yours that you don't have this problem too (for me the noise appeared -most of the time- for example when I scrolled long pages in a web browser or moving windows around). From I read on this forum this is a problem that exists on different models from different manufacturers, but it's better if you are aware of it. -
Where are you buying this laptop from?

I am planning to buy from local SONY Store . I am also planning to trade in few old laptops.

No the C240G is not for sale in CisrcuitSity. I was speaking of the C140G. I was refering to this model as a cheaper alternative (with only 1GB RAM, 120GB hard drive, and shared video)

Hi,
I went on CC web site and, yes, you are right: the C140G is not there anymore. And not on Best Buy web site either. It was still on CC website one week ago! I suppose this model has been replaced with the C240 (more adpated to windows Vista I suppose). As I said I bought my C140 for only $800 at Best Buy. I think they wanted to get rid of the last models before the arrival of the C240 and Windows Vista. I think then you will have to stick to the C240. However if this model is the same as the C140 with just more memory and bigger hard drive, read about the problems this laptop might have. Personally I am returning mine to Sony's tech support because of a electronic noise when I scroll a window or move a window around, and for a clicking noise coming from the hard drive (audible only when there is perfect silence around). There is a small problem on the keyboard too: if you press on the left part of the space bar, the pressing is not recorded correctly. You should check these details before buying (even if it's hard to have perfect silence in a store). Perhaps these problems have been corrected though on the new model.
