    Hi guys,

My laptop bag belt cracked yesterday and my VAIO notebook had a close contact with the ground from about 1.5m high. The laptop was bought in July 2005, definitely not under service warranty now.

After inspecting the laptop, I found the LCD display is slightly tilted, meaning there is some empty space in the upper right corner as well as the lower left corner. For a normal LCD, I can use the built-in control to readjust the display, but for VAIO there is no such button. Does anybody have an idea how to readjust the LCD display for a VAIO laptop?

One of the two joints that connect the LCD with the body also became loose and I can see small cracks on it. When folding and unfolding the LCD cover, I can hear sound coming out from the joint. Hopefully the situation won't deteriorate further.

I phoned Sony customer service and a service charge of SGD 120 (in Singapore) is required for laptops not under warranty regardless of the type of problem, hardware or software. I'm always wondering why Sony offers such a short period of warranty (usually 1-year with extended warranty for another 3-6 months), while other laptop vendors also offer 1-year international plus 3-year local.

    Any help is appreciated!
