    Hi,

I've done my due diligence and now I need to ask.

Is there ANY way to physically disable the shock protection sensor in my Sony VAIO VGN-SZ61MN.B?

I know that it can be disabled using the windows utility but I sometimes find that before the system reaches my boot menu I get "Operating System not found" unless I give the HDD a little tap and reset the laptop. Also during boot, before the driver has loaded sometimes I hear it click off if it gets the slightest of knocks.
Even typing in my password on a flat desk will trigger it, and I'm not exactly a heavy on the keys. Oh and this is with HDD protection OFF in the windows driver, I'm also dual booting into Ubuntu where it's problematic.

I'm prepared to accept a head crash and I'm gonna stick a SSD in this anyway, my friend who also has a SZ-5 with an upgraded SSD sometimes gets HDD protection kick in!

I've read through the disassembly handbook and the AHCI VT-x thread to see if there's a modification I can make to the BIOS.

I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to kill this damned sensor so anything to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Many times the sensors are integrated into the FPC that connects the drive to the board. Sometimes they move. You could try securing it better with some tape, etc....it may keep it from tripping so easily.

Uninstall the driver and software or just disable it in control panel as mentioned.
