Downgraded Win 7 to Win XP on new VPCZ116GX, but surprised to find that I can't get 1600x900 resolution (16:9). Only have 1440x900, with black bands on both sides of the screen. The LCD monitor driver is the standard XP plug and play one, with GeForce 330M video adapter.

NVIDIA gives me the option to scale the 1440x900 to fit the full width of the screen, but then things are distorted (stretched horizontally). I've tried the unsupported resolutions, but only 1600x1200 is available.

Even tried Powerstrip and changing the registry, but no luck.

Anyone having similar issues? Would like to get the native 1600x900 resolution in XP on this laptop.

Some Z1's come with XP downgrade media and those machines only come in 1600x900. So yes, it works.

Sony's are very particular about video driver versions. Download and install both the Intel HD and Nvidia driver packages from the Sony support site.
