VAIO Y Series PC | Sony | SonyStyle USA

Nothing new been on sale since last week here in Dubai... actually you can go for the AMD or the i3 version....
Played with both last Saturday not bad, for that size the Intel i3 reminded me in its all black as a "TT" replacement (Sorry no CDROM) but the rest was real cool.. the AMD is only available according to the staff in the "Pink and Silver" -
I think there two options here "Pink and silver" and "Silver". I'm really torn between this and the x120e.
-
I had convinced myself that the x120e was the laptop to buy, but the YB is looking really good in silver. I'm hesitant to buy the vaio because of past build quality issues with Vaio's. I'm going to wait for the YB review on engadget.

This has been said in other threads...but the problem I see here is the price. $600? That's quite a bit. Nearing the territory of similar sized (albeit slightly bigger) laptops but with the i series of procs. The sweet spot for these is around $450 and so far it seems only HP's dm1z can meet that ($487 for HP dm1z, dual core, 4GB, 320GB, Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit at Costco).
I also don't understand why Sony gives us the 32-bit version of Windows 7 while also providing 4GB of RAM?? -
this is a rip off big time. The hp dm1z with 30 dollar off coupon they have now is going for 419.99. If you add 4GB ram that brings it to 449.99. So AMD e-350, 320GB 7200 RPM (Not 5400 rpm) HDD, 4GB RAM, Win 7 Home 64 bit, 4400 mah battery rated for 9.5 hours (not 3600 mah rated for 6 hours)
So it's 150 dollars cheaper with slightly better specs and the dm1z is incredibly easy to pop off the bottom cover and make ur own upgrades doesnt even require screws. -
If you upgrade the RAM to 4GB and HDD to 500GB in the HP dmz1 configuration to match the YB, it's $529 vs. $599, which isn't quite so bad. But still... The small battery in the YB is definitely a big disadvantage, especially if this generation of AMD ULV is as power hungry as the last.
Hopefully HP has improved their cooling a bit, as the old 13" HP dm3z ran pretty hot with the AMD ULV inside. Personally, I'd pay more to get the Intel version of either of these. -
there is a 30 dollar off coupon valid on the dm1z and the dm1z has a 7200 rpm drive and the sony is 5400 rpm
the dm1z is also known to run incredibly cool. It has some of the best heat ratings of any laptop period -
I agree, the Sony's small battery, slow HD, and 32 bit version of seven is a disappointment next to the HP dm1. So far, this is the weakest system offering the newer AMD E350 APU. I recommend the Lenovo X120e or HP dm1 over this. Personally, I think HP nailed it with the dm1 with screen, speakers, battery life, keyboard, track pad, and BQ.
Sony VAIO YB now shipping ($599, AMD Fusion, 11.6")
