    Hey guys,

I just bought a Sony Vaio Z (thank sony for the $500 discount for the holidays). Anyways I connected my TV (while plugged in and using the Nvidia video card) with an HDMI to my laptop. My TV is 1080p supported Panasonic. When connected, the Sony HDMI resolution box appears telling you whats being outputted, it says 768p (720p and 1080p are grayed out and not selectable).

I have no clue why, the TV resolution can be set 1920 x 800 ( i think i got that number right) but it still has 768p resolution output. I am not sure why but I want it to be set at 1080p. What is the issue or what needs to be changed?

My VPCZ showed the same thing yours did when I plugged it into a 52" 1080p BRAVIA the 1st time. I don't know why, but after switching to "Computer Only" then back to "Extended" the 1080p option became available.

hmm maybe thats why. I was using clone and tried independent displays. But let me try Extended Desktop.

So I am assuming that Independent Displays, or Clones do not support 1080p. I wonder if single display on TV supports 1080p. That would be kind of annoying if it didnt but only Extended did.

I just remember trying to watch 1080p Blue Ray flicks but the image quality was not sharp, mine must have been set to "Duplicate" because that is the only option that won't let me select 1080p and it will also block 720p.
When I set the display to "Projector only" (TV) I have the option for 1080p.

To use clone, both displays must support the same resolution. If your notebook isn't 1080p you can't use clone at 1080p.
